need cheap intercom?? a solution here Can't Post

I just tried out a cheap and easy way to do the Intercom system. I needed it for a live event.

I purchased 4 cheap cordless telephones at Walmart, 4 headsets, a 3 way telephone line splitter, and a 300-ohm resister. All it all it cost right under $200.

It's basically a telephone system without the dial tone. Here is a link to create the network.

I've heard that there is a power supply that plugs into the wall and will serve as the 9-volt so you don't have to worry about the battery running out. I haven't checked on that yet.

My suggestions after using this system follow:
1. I was in a noisy room and the headsets we were using made it hard to hear each other while the singing was going on. A headset that covered the ear or an in-ear system would be a lot better. Cutting down on room noise interferance is the goal so you can hear the other mics.
2. The cordless phone base needs to be placed near the phone or high up in the air to cut down on interferance.

Other than that it worked well and very cheap.
Good luck.

I had been thinking about this also, I thought about the small FMRS & GMRS walkie talkies most have an optional headset with mic and all have the vox feature and have a range of about 1 to 3 miles. best of all some of the name brands now come with rechargable batteries and the the sets are very reasonable compare to when they were new on the market .
