ool Year Wrap Up Video Can't Post

Hello -

I am fairly new to making videos. I am in an after school organizatin called FBLA. We want to have a fundraiser to make a "year in review DVD" We are going to be taking video of events through out the year and towards the end we are going to have a "Confessional" type booth where students can talk about the year.

I need to know EVERYTHING about video production to make a successful DVD. What do I need to know from start to finish. Are there any good sites with articles? has anybody did this in the past and could show me an example?!?

Share your knowledge! I need all the info I can get! We start shooting next weekend.

By the way, our equipment is not the best but I think it will do. I have a basic JVC Digital video camera. Model GR-D33U.

We are going to use still photos and digital video.

Thanks for your help!!!!!!
Jordan

Jordan,
I admire your ambition. It's great to have a goal and be willing to learn what's necessary to make it happen. However, you are undertaking a very big job if you're totally inexperienced. Yes, many schools do video yearbooks. In addition to shooting, you'll need a way to edit your footage. As for learning about video production, here are two websites:
www.video101course.com
www.cybercollege.com

Also this forum has a free library of articles on the front page of the site that you might want to check out.

From your posting, it seems that you are a student. If so, your teacher/sponsor needs to be heavily involved in the legalities of your production, particularly in getting the proper releases. If you have legal questions, please visit the website of the Student Press Law Center which will provide free legal advice to student journalists. (www.splc.org)

Re: [jor133d] ool Year Wrap Up Video [In reply to] Can't Post

I did a year in review once. It was a painful task of going through video after video finding what I needed. Very time consuming. Then if your source material isn't that great it makes it even more difficult. For example, people won't set through a video that many people shoot where they are panning, zooming and moving all over the place. You can't stay on any particular topic for long or people loose interest, it has to keep moving. Much of the video is creative technique that comes from experience.

Good luck... Gary
