recording from camcorder to vhs - URGENT HELP NEEDED PLEEEASE!!! Can't Post

I am trying to record a camcorder hi-8 tape onto a vhs tape by plugging the camcorder into the video, pressing play on the camcorder and record on the video, but it just won't work!! Is there some simple solution to this??
Any help very gratefully received

The VCR has to be set so that the input you're using is the one that it's recording from, rather than from its built in TV tuner.
How to do this varies from VCR to VCR. Some have a button marked "Input Select" on the front or on the remote. Set it to "Line In". Others (esp. older models) have a TV channel that's reserved for this, possibly ch. 99. Still others make this selection in an on-screen setup menu.
Your camcorder must be in "VCR" mode, so that it will act like a little VCR rather than a camera. Again, different camcorders have different ways of selecting this. Many Sony camcorders have a slide switch on the top, or it may be an additional rotary switch position in the ring surrounding the red REC switch under your thumb.
Some camcorders also have a switch to swap the audio and video jacks between working as outputs and inputs. If yours does, be sure it's set to "output".
As a safety precaution, be sure the anti-recording tab on your hi8 tape is set to the locked position. You don't want to record over it by mistake.

RE: "As a safety precaution, be sure the anti-recording tab on your hi8 tape is set to the locked position. You don't want to record over it by mistake."
Also, remember that 8-mm, Hi-8 and Digital-8 tapes are the opposite of other tapes when it comes to locking them so that you don't accidently record over them.
