simple live switcher - any suggestions? Can't Post

I am looking for a simple switcher for a live two camera shoot. Does anybody have any suggestions (other than the mx-1)? Thanks!

Have you looked at the Panasonic WJ-MX20? 4 inputs...about $1,500.

An inexpensive switcher will make a visible "glitch" with every switch. The Panasonic has internal genlock. Your choice..

My comment above is based on earlier inexpensive models. If there is now a very cheap one which gives smooth switching I certainly want to check it out.

Good point Janet!
Beware of the difference between an source switcher (something you would use to switch between VCRs or other video sources feeding an editor) and a switcher intended for production (studio style production). In fact these used to be called SEGs Special Effects Generators and provided more of a line of distinction. They would switch between sources on the Vertical Interval between scenes and were Genlocked together.
Since the advent of the more affordable AV Switcher like the Panasonic WV line, there is an internal frame synchronizer that makes this transition without the glitch or visible roll.
So - if you wish for a smooth, technically clean transition between video sources you need such a switcher.
Another option is to go 'live on tape' for a broadcast and then edit the program together but I think that takes away some of the authentic demands of a live project.

Chet

If you will go on EBAY and go to the professional video section and type in< Vertical interval switcher you will find them in any # of configurations.
Generally they will have a program out,a monitor out, and usually 4 to 6 inputs.
They switch the source at the vertical point in the interlaced frame and you will not get the glitching that is associated with the cheapos at Wally Mart.
They are made by Panasonic and Extron and a few others.
Some have just push buttons and some have buttons along with capability for a remote switch.
I use these when I do not have anything but a straight cut from scene to scene as in a sporting event.
If you want fades and transitions then go with the MX-1 or the Digital MX-1.
You cant beat these switchers for the money,(the best $500 you ever spent)DO NOT chase your tail buying all of the old has been switchers, they may look cool but they are CRAP! All of the older switchers are nothing but a headache and only a few have internal sync.
Hope this helps.
