using pc to capture video Can't Post

Hi, I am so glad to find this bbs.
I bought my mini dv two years ago, which is sony trv17. I have never used it to tape any video on my computer. After reading some messages you guys have posted, I realize I might need to buy the i.link cable and the firewire card to make vcd or dvd. Currently I am using windows98 o.s, and there is no firewire port on my computer. What else do I need if I want to use my camcorder to make vcd or dvd? Any recommended brands or price ranges?
