videography Can't Post

Hi, I've videotaped and editted a few weddings and since then have found that I really enjoy videography. If I chose to pursue this as a career, would you suggest going back to school? If so please suggest some schools in MA or RI. thank you

Re: videography Can't Post

I recommend you find a wedding video person in your area and see if you can apprentice with them. You will learn real world techniques and methods. After a time you wil feel confident enough to go out on your own.

Re: videography [In reply to] Can't Post

If it's wedding video you want to pursue, there's no need for special schooling. It's pretty much learn by doing and self-study.
If you want to get into corporate or broadcast video production, or filmmaking, there are several reputable film schools around the country, notably in New York, California, and Florida. I believe there's an intensive workshop held in Rockport, ME.
Opinions on the desirability of a film school degree vary. Some say it's a very desirable qualification. Others say it's a waste of time, and learning by doing is the best way to go. In my view, if you can afford the time and money, it would be a good investment, especially for the opportunities it offers to develop contacts in the industry, and to develop a portfolio of work.
For self-study, there's a free self-paced course on production on the Web, at http://www.cybercollege.com/tvp_ind.htm. Also, Hal (our host) offers home study courses in production, wedding video, and legal video here on this site.
