Re: [casvideos.com] 2 Channel Audio [In reply to] Can't Post

Any editing program will capture 2 channels of audio. If you mean, however, the SECOND pair of stereo channels available in 12 bit audio mode for DV, then Vegas can do that.

Any NLE can do it, although the procedures may be different.

In Vegas, import your clip, and drag it to the timeline.
Un-group the audio from the video. Select the audio clip and copy it. Paste a copy to a new audio track.
Right-click the audio clip. You now have the option to use Left channel only, Right channel only, or both. Pick either left or right. Repeat with the copy of the clip, but choose the other channel.

Re-group the video and the audio clips so as not to lose sync while dragging them around.

I know Premiere and Edition will. I don't know Avid, but it's such a basic capability I can't imagine anybody leaving it out.

Select the audio clip in the timeline. Copy and paste the copy to a new track.
Right click on the original audio clip. Select "audio options". Select "left only".
Repeat for the copy, but select "right only".

Early versions of Pinnacle would only capture audio from channel one only. There is a plug-in available for panning both channels after capture.

Re: [casvideos.com] 2 Channel Audio [In reply to] Can't Post

Can you explain how the footage was captured?
If you were using an external XLR mic input, it is likely a mono signal going into only the left (or the right) channel. When you capture the footage, all the audio will only be on the L (or the R) channel. Panning the audio from L to R (or R to L) will result in silence since there is no audio on the other channel.

Perhaps this is what happened... You'll need to explain more.

If you are trying to capture two separate stereo audio signals (like a 12-bit stereo audio on channel 1 and another 12-bit stereo on channel 2 as is possible with cameras like the Canon XL1, XL2 and others) then Premiere will not capture these two audio channels.

I use a program called ScenalyzerLive for multi-channel audio footage.

I'm not sure if this helps you. I hope it does.
Cheers!
