Audio Attenuator Question Can't Post

I think this is the correct place to post this.

What is the difference between these 2 attenuators:

Shure A15LA

Rolls Direct Box #ADB2

I would like to take a line output from a mixer and feed it into my wireless mike transmitter (i.e. Samson Airline AX1).

Re: [Ezra] Audio Attenuator Question [In reply to] Can't Post

I suggest this one instead: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/...dedTroughType=search

It has XLR in and out (since both your choices had this, I assume you need it), and it has switchable levels of attenuation. It's also a little cheaper.

If you can use RCA or 1/8" connections, Radio shack has attenuators that are even less expensive.

Here's one that comes in three strengths, (but not switchable): http://www.markertek.com/...;off=2&sort=prod

Actually Doug, I would recommend this one from Audio technica.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=68085&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation

It has 3 levels of db attenuation 10/20/30db.

Michael

Cameras: I do use them.

Thanks. They seem very similar. Different levels of attenuation. 10/20/30 vs. 20/30/40 is 40 ever used? Is 10 too little?

10 is generally used for mic level attenuation, and 20-40 is generally used for line level attenuation, since line signals are considerably stronger than mic level feeds.
I use 10 db pads on my mics quite often to prevent level clipping to my recorder.
When I am coming from a board to my recorder or camera, I find myself using 40 just to be safe.
