FCP/APPLE Slow Import Can't Post

Hello:

I need some help solving a nagging problem with a G5/FCP problem.

I'm experiencing slow file imports. Slow, like 4 minutes, before the "choose" button highlights and allows me to import the file.
This problem does clear itself, but for only short periods of time. I've cleaned out all my hard drives and usually keep only one on-line while editing a project. This problem occurs regardless of the software: Motion, Soundtrack Pro, FCP.

The G5 has 2 GB Ram with a dual 2G processor. I never run more than one application at a time.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Re: [Richard6250] FCP/APPLE Slow Import [In reply to] Can't Post

This is a configuration problem, or something in your G5 is broken. I highly recommend the book "Optimizing Your Final Cut Pro 5 System" by Apple and PeachPit Press.

If it's happening with all your software, I'd have the machine checked out (after going through the book I mentioned).

I'm wondering, what is your hard drive set up?

Be sure virus protetion software is turned off.
Be sure all screen saver/power saver settings are turned off.
Try removing it from any networks it may be connected to.
Run MacJanitor and Disk Utility once a week.
Run DiskWarrior once a month.

Try running Tech Tools to verify all your RAM and other system components are good.

This is unusual and will take some trouble shooting. Feel free to email me directly (info@wolfdigitalmedia.net).

Thank you for the reply. I will get that book, I love Peachpit Press.

I solved the problem by disabling "Spotlight" through a piece of software available on the Apple website. The application is called "Spotless".

Thanks again!
