HDTV instead of HD monitor? Can't Post

If my camera can act as a bridge between the computer and TV, when it comes time to editing HDV, would an otherwisely-used home TV be an acceptable replacement to an HD monitor?

would that work?

(I have several HDV tapes ready to go, but have only yet edited DV footage.)

I need to buy either a monitor, or more prefereably, a TV (and highjack that TV when it come time to edit...causing my wife to 'demand' I get a HD monitor!)
