HELP! My computer just crashed. Can't Post

This has never happened to me before and I don't know what to do. I hope someone can help me. I'm writing this from our home computer because my other one has stopped running.....
I was in the middle of a vegas editing project when this happened.
My work computer is a Dell Dimension 8300, Pent 4 Processor, 2.66 Ghz, level 2 cache, BIOS version A-05, running Vegas 4.

I was rendering a vegas project to avi (2.5 hours in length), when shortly into it, the screen went dark and the error message came as follows:
KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR

It told me to 1. restart computer, (which I did by hitting the power button since CTRl/ALT/DLT didn't work)
2. if problem continues,. disable or remove any newly installed hardware (the only thing that's new is the new Pioneer A09-XL DVD drive I installed 3 days ago. and it's been working fine,
3. disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. (which I don't know how to do).

The other things that come up are:

*Problem detected with Array: 1
I went into another screen that showed system info and it lists the following:
SATA Primary Drive Off
SATA Secondary Drive Off
Primary master drive Off
Primary slave drive Off
Secondary Master Drive CD-Rom Device
IDE UDMA On
The CD-Rom drive, keyboard and the mouse work, but it looks like everything else is OFF. What happened?
What do I do? Please help. I have to get this working again and get my video files. Is my computer toast?
Thanks, Rabbit

Sounds like maybe your motherboard's drive interfaces have gone south. Since it's a Dell, the first thing to do is to call Dell Technical Support. They'll probably have some things they'll want you to step through.

If they tell you to send the computer back for service, ask them:
- Will the service erase the data on my hard drives?
If the answer is anything other than "absolutely not", then ask them:
- Can I remove my hard drives, and send the computer to you for service? Fix it and send it back without the drives, and I'll reinstall them here.

If they go along with that, remove the hard drives. Label each one so that you know which plug it connects to on the motherboard. Reinstall to exactly the same locations.

If they don't go along with the idea of you removing the drives, then you MAY be faced with the necessity of reinstalling any applications you added yourself, and recapturing your video data from the source tapes.

Hi Doug,
Thank you for the info. I got one error message so far while the resource disk is checking the system. It had an error code and said 'uncorrectable data error or media is write protected.' Contact Dell Support. I got this computer in 2003 and it's off warranty now. I don't think Dell support will help me.
If I have to send back the computer though, I'll remove the hard drives like you said.
Thanks,
Rabbit

Dell should be able to help you. I had a problem with my SATA drive which it wouldn't even find! Dell told me to hit F2 for setup. Then hit num lock, caps lock, scroll lock. Then hit alt+f, alt+e, and alt_f
That would reset it.

GOOD LUCK!
