I've never done that to a mini-DV tape, but I have done it to VHS. If I HAD to try it, I would make sure that you have a clean cut of each end of tape. You don't want any jagged edges. Then place the two cuts together and put a little bit of tape on the backside the video tape only. Give it a little tug and see if it holds. Make a complete dub of the tape. Do a live recording from start to finish. Don't set in points or out points and definitely don't shuttle through the tape. If it copies, throw the damn thing away and master it out to a new tape. Disclaimer: I would give this about a 20% chance of working. It also may mess up any deck or camera that you play back the tape in. Do this at your own risk.
