Iriver, ect. best replacement for wireless mic? Can't Post

I just had to get rid of the wireless mic I bought, Sony WSC-999, what a piece of crap. unreliable, drops audio, and the audio you do get is staticy and unasable, for the most part.

There have been posts about using Irivers and the like in the past, are people still happy using these as a 'wireless mic'?

is there a preferred model/brand?

or...what is a low-end, yet completely reliable wireless mic system?

thanks

I don't know anything about the Iriver but I am happy with the Audio_Techinica Pro88w. I was skeptical at first. Can a $150.00 VHF wireless be any good?
I was pleasantly surprised. I borrowed $800 Sony UHF set and used it with my
A-T. It was hard to tell the differance

No wireless system is "completely" reliable. But systems of acceptable quality and reliability (for most folks) start at around the $500 point. (Although I DID use a $200 Azden WMS Pro VHF system for several years, and it performed far better than its price point).

iRivers have good sound quality and are inexpensive. They do have some quirks you need to be aware of, such as a nonstandard mic connector and a clunky menu system. Also, the models that will accept an external mic input, the iFP series, have been discontinued and are getting scarce.

A minidisc recorder with a mic input is also a good choice, at around $200. Better audio quality than the iRiver, or even than most camcorders. But they, too, have some quirks...you have to transfer their audio via an analog connection.

Brackish, what do you think of the Sony Hi-MD
MZ-NH600 model? Do you need to use SonicStage to do
USB transfers?

I am hesitant to buy because it seems like Sony is not
putting their full weight into the Hi-MD format. I read
somewhere that MiniDisc was discontinued and Sony
is no longer making that format. But I like that you could
format regular MD discs in Hi-MD format and get double
the capacity. Adding Hi-MD support for their PSP, would
relieve a lot of my concerns.

I think Sony isn't putting their heart into MD, because mini disc is dead in my opinion. It's quickly being replaced by flash drive recorders and IPOD type devices.

Personally I hvae been suing a M-Audio Microtrack 24/96 Removable Flash card recorder, and it works far better than teh IRivers have for me. The biggest problem that the IRivers were for me was that I had at least 4 IRivers stop being recognize my my computer systems, hense the data on them was not able to be taken off it (This is whay I love removable flash cards).
The M-Audio isn't cheap, but yields better recording and even had balanced 1/4 TRS inputs for mics. And while mini disks have to be recorded back to your system (analog), I just have to take the flash card out of the MT and place in my card reader, and transfer (either as MP3 or WAV) to my system in a matter of minutes. No additional software or conversion is needed like the IRivers and I save a ton of time, unlike mini disk transfer.

Personally I record to Microtrack during ceremonies with a small T stereo mic pluggen into the 1/8 input and it has worked great.
During receptions I record using stereo AT822 mic to 1/4 TRS input, and at the same time output from the RCA's IO to my Samson Wireless to send to my camera to Left channel, for dual redundant recording. This also enables me to monitor the Microtrack while it is recording.

There is another unit that is coming out in a month or so from Edirol (Edirol R-09) that is getting a lot of attention as well.

The IRivers were great for me while starting off, and cheap to boot, but I needed a more reliable way to get even better audio.

I still use an IRiver for redundant backup audio, where I need additional audio recorded while my MT is already in use. I just don't rely on them for much needed audio.

Sorry Brack I stand corrected. I wasn't aware that MD's finally dropped the analog only capture.
