Outputting to a tabletop DVD recorder? Can't Post

Hello all,

My search goes on, and I'm sending out a two-part question here. I am looking for a Tabletop DVD recorder that can accept an MPEG-2 file from my computer firewire, into its hard-drive via a firewire input. Know if any exist? I have been told (and it's been questionably verified by a an unsure Toshiba phone tech) that the Toshiba models RD-XS32 or XS34 have an MPEG-2 on their input menu. Unfortunately I have not been able to actually meet one of these machines in person anywhere in my area, and the web site specs are very vague (hence my phone call to Toshiba). If there anyone out there who has one of these machines, and can illuminate this topic, it would be much appreciated. Also, I've asked here before, but if anyone knows of another machine that will do this, I'd love to hear about it.

PART II: Most of these DVD recorders that have a firewire input are set up to receive footage directly from a digital camcorder on to the machine's hard drive. My question is if the machine accepts that digital information, and I can "record to tape" from my editing timeline on to a camcorder or dv VCR, can I not use the same record to tape output from my timeline right on to the hard drive of a tabletop DVD recorder via firewire? Can anyone tell me what the signal form of that digital information is (as opposed to an MPEG-2 file).

Your attention and response to any or all of these questions are much appreciated.

I can't answer #1, but I have an idea about your second question.

If you play a timeline directly out of your computer through the Firewire port, then it should be a regular DV signal. The set-top DVD recorder should be able to see it as DV, and then directly encode it to mpeg2 - VOB files for the DVD. I have never done it, but it should work.
