Panasonic AG-7150-B Professional VCP Expected Life? Can't Post

Greetings,

I just purchased a Panasonic AG-7150-B Professional Video Cassette Player at a GARAGE SALE for $25.00! An on-line search leads me to believe that the VCP ran some $3,200.00 MSRP new. It seems to work flawlessly. It has an cylinder hour meter that reads 846 hours. Anyone know how many hours one can expect to get out of one of these? I'd also like to figure out how old it is. (Ser # JITC00009).

Any info or input / experience / knowledge of this machine would be appreciated. I did find the manual in .pdf on-line. I intend to use it for forensic video analysis, (extracting stills from raw video, (hopefully good quality ones)).

Thank you!

VTR heads typically have a life expectancy of 2000 hours. It probably has a lot of life left in them. However, it may be in need of servicing...or why would it have wound up at a garage sale?

Thanks LuKiss. I'm somewhat familiar with the Avid product line, but it has been a while since I've taken a look. Thanks for reminding me!

Videobear,

Very glad to hear I might expect to see 2000 hours out of the heads. I should note, however, that I did get an "error 5" reading, which essentially has to do with reel lock trouble, (according to Panasonic). Searching the web for that type of problem, it seems that a good cleaning was in order. I used some head cleaning liquid, (ala Radio Shack variety), with a few gun cleaning patches and long Q-tips, and pulled enough dirt out to paint the face of a combat trooper. Works great now...no errors. I put it through its sea trials so-to-speak.

I found this garage sale in a very, very upscale neighborhood. The guy said it was used by some company to show a demo tape in several states. He guessed less than 50-hours...(times 17!) said he didn't know why they didn't just buy a $50.00 VCR for the job, but it has been sitting for some time and he wants to get rid of it...I had seen units like this in a CCTV studio, the back of a news van, and at a local video production studio. He took $25.00 and here we are!

Thanks again!
