You didn't say if you were on Mac or Windows, but this sounds like a cross-linking problem on the hard drive. You may want to backup the hard-drive, then run a diagnostic (check disk or disk utility) against it, delete cross linked files (they will probably be damaged), copy the remaining files to another drive, format the original drive and move the files back. If you've got a really good disk repair program, you may be able to continue using the drive after making repairs without reformatting, but reformatting will guarantee that no old problems will sneak back in, unless the hardware itself is failing. When files get cross linked, two files think they occupy the same space. The last file to get written overwrites some of the data from the other file, and both files end up corrupted. --- Douglas Toltzman Hubert, NC
