Repairs??? Pls help!!! Can't Post

Hey all...

recently, my video Cam (JVC DV503) just broke down.
the control panel where the Zoom, record, menu and index buttons are located does not seem to work.
When I turn on my video cam, it will automatically zoom out all the way, and stay that way. no matter what I press or scroll on that control panel, nothing changes.
I consulted with JVC, they asked me to send it in, but they said that it'll cost at minimium $80 to repair...
is there anywhere else that is reliable and more affordable that i can bring my cam to repair?

That is a bargain price. Sony generally has a fixed repair price of (last I heard) $280 for their VX-2100 and similar camcorders.

yeah $80 sounds cheap... but that is their basic labour fees... it all depends on the problem with the cam...

but thanks anyways...

Camcorders are one of the few products where buying an extended warranty can prove worthwhile. Sony offers (or did, anyway) an extended warranty called "Sony Partnership", which not only gave you extra coverage, but provided a free annual cleaning of your camcorder. Something to consider next time you buy a cam...sorry it doesn't help out with the present problem.
