Security.....Glidecam? Can't Post

I am going to Mexico this summer, and I will be following my son around while he works with some of the younger kids. I plan to take my FX1. I will be in a number of different parts of a large city. I am a bit concerned about a "grab and go" situation where I would have little hope of catching up with the "grabber". I am wondering about the Glidecam 2000 with the bodypod. Would any of you own use this combo consider this to be a bit more secure than handheld or tripod? I am thinking that with the cam screwed to the 2000, and the 2000 attached to the bodypod, that it would be much more difficult to get the cam without taking me along.

Does this make any sense? I've only seen pics of the Glidecam stuff, so I need to hear from those that are using this stuff.

Thanks,

Craig

What makes you think they won't take you along and then later dump you in an alley somewhere. From what I understand it happens all the time. Mexico City or Border town? The big cities are more dangerous.

I will be with a group of about 1200 people. There will be several other adults with us at all times.
We will be in Ensenada.

You'll probably be fine, as long as you don't leave the cam on your beach towel while you take a dip.

I wish we were going to the beach! Cool

We will be in the inner city areas.

I just had an idea.

Pick up a padded camera strap at a camera store. The larger padded straps would be good.
You then would put the strap over one shoulder and then under the other arm, kind of how the tell women to carry their purse. This will help in a few ways. First is will keep someone from just grabbing the cam, plus a good thick strap would be hard to cut and grab. Second, others have used the strap as a way to hold the camera steady, just use a little tension. Third would be to help hold the camera so that your arm does not get tired from carrying a camera around all day.

Hope this helps

That's a great idea, Steven. I never thought about using a strap as a stabilizing device either.

Thanks for taking the time to help with a solution.

The Body Pod isn't for "following around" - it's only for still shots or for resting. You need the Smooth Shooter arm for following around. Otherwise the thing will shake with every step you take.

The Body Pod is a place to rest your Glidecam or should I say, your arm. I have it and I am getting the Smooth Shooter soon.
