Seeking help from Premiere/Canopus Pro's... Can't Post

Hopefully a simple question:

I'm currently running Premiere 6.5 on a Canopus DVRex R3 machine with Intel P4, 3.2ghz, 2Gigs RAM, Windows XP Pro... My file size limitations seem to top off at 2GB when importing video through Premiere (about 9-minute intervals of video before a pause in capture).

Does anyone know of a way to increase the size/time limitations when capturing? I'm not very savvy on this type of stuff, so I'm not even sure it can be done. Any hardware mods/updates I could purchase, or is it impossible?

Obviously not an immediate concern of any type, but it would be nice to tell this thing to capture in 30-min intervals or so to dump B-roll and raw footage.

Any input at all would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance!!

Are you capturing thru canopus? If you are, there should be a setting that you can change to capture whatever increments you want.

The 2GB file size limitation stems from earlier versions of Windows' use of the FAT 32 file system. Solve this problem in two steps.

1. Reformat your video capture drive as NTFS.
2. Canopus will still limit captures to 4 GB/18 minutes, UNLESS...
...you select "capture as Reference AVI".

A Reference AVI is a work-around that was originally developed to get around the Windows file size limitations, and is still a part of the Canopus DV file structure. When you capture as a REF AVI, Canopus will create a small "pointer" file and as many 2GB data files as needed to complete the capture. To the user, the AVI will work just like a single long clip. HOWEVER: you must be careful not to move any of the original files from the directory in which they were captured. If you do, the pointer file will no longer be able to "see" the data files, and you'll get an error message.

If you like to move your data files around, for project work by other people on other computers, or for archival purposes, you may want to use another option: Seamless Capture. When you select this option, the Canopus capture utility will capture as many 2GB files as needed to cover the capture interval you specify, and will save and name them sequentially. You then can place these files back-to-back in a track on the timeline, and they will play "seamlessly", with no gaps or jumps between the end of one clip and the start of the next. The only drawback is that you now have several clips which need to be moved, or color corrected, or whatever, instead of just one long clip.
