Sony Alignment Problem? Can't Post

Hi Kids!
I recently purchased an 8mm Sony CCD-F201 at a garage sale for $10. I knew I was taking a small chance but the
camera, case, manuals and accessories all looked to be brand new or hardly used. The battery charged correctly and I even treated the camera to multiple passes with a brand new cleaning tape.
It appears to playback sound well enough, however, no images on playback - just some wavy gray bands across my TV. Also when looking thru the viewfinder in STBY or REC the image seems to be quickly jumping or rolling. I can barely makeout the STBY or REC rolling by or anything else the camera might be screaming at me. Could this be the alignment problem these old 8mm are know for? If so, what cost am I looking at to have a local shop adjust this problem?
Thanking any responder in advance -Roy Wink

If the image on the screen is distorted on standby and record, that's not an alignment problem. Have you tried playing a tape that was recorded on it, on a different player/camera?

Calidude
Thanks for the suggestion but I don't have another 8mm camera to playback the tape on. I've only recorded one partial tape on it.....good brand new Sony tape.....and the playback shows gray wavy bands on my TV.

That's an old camera. You most likely have had all the surface mount capacitors fail. It was common in those cameras ten years ago. Glad you only paid $10 for it. It's not worth any repair.
