8mm camcorders are notorious for alignment problems, but I can't say what your original problem was. 70% Isopropyl Alcohol AND Q-tips are BIG NO-NO's inside ANY rotary-head video device. The alcohol isn't pure enough to evaporate without leaving a residue (generally, freon-type cleaners are preferred) and the cotton on Q-tips gets pulled off and clogged in the heads (pros use a foam-tipped or chamois cleaning tools). Cleaning a VCR (or camcorder) is usually not something you want to do all the time. I leave serious cleanings to a camcorder maintenance professional - too much for me to screw up. I do use the brush-type wet video cleaner Radio Shack sells for periodic quickies, but that's all. Hal Robertson Sound Foundation hdrobert@4state.com : I was playing back a tape on my Sony Handy Cam CCd-F55 "8MM" . : It was showing a jerking motion along the bottom of the screen similar to tracking miss alignment and the occasional horizontal line through the picture . I attemped to clean the head with 70% rubbing alcholol and a "Q" tip. When I played the tape again there were a lot of horizontal lines now showing up . It looks something like some VCR's on fast forward. I have blown out the head area , but no help. Have I damaged the head ? : Any suggestions? : I am a electronics technician but with very little knowledge on Camcorders. If I have screwed it up ..so be it... but I would like a head start before I take it in for repair !!! : Thanks in advance !!!
