Sports broadcast starting out questions??THANKS Can't Post

for 4 years our non-profit group have been recording and announcing local hs sports and events for insertion via DVD on our local cable channel! we have been using old consumer 8mm camcorders!

we finally have raised enough donated money to update our camera and go DV, we already have DV computer editing equip!

my question to everyone is, what camera to buy?????

we have been looking at the following camera's, keep in mind that we also must hookup 3 mic's for the announcers to the camera, so im looking for a camera with a easy way of doing this, i do have a mic mixer. i noticed the audio inputs on the DSR-PD150 may work the best for us, but i am not where i can go look at one and not sure i trust any salesmen on the phone concerning these cameras!

the panasonic's are lower in price, but not sure about their performance or just what the difference's are between them and the sony's???!

Sony DSR-PD150 DV
Sony DSR-VX2100
Panasonic AG-DVC7
Panasonic AG-DVC30

we also are looking at in the future, getting a DV recording device like the Focus Firewire, which makes it easier and faster to edit?? wondering if anyone has any input on these and how they work??? they seem to be available for $700-$1000??

my thought is to get a DV recorder and attached it one of the DV camera's above, record on tape(archive) and on the DV recorder, then give the recorder to our editing person for easy and fast editing?? will this work?? i know from past experence that transfering the video makes editing very slow?

or is there a better way and better camera's for less money??

any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Now I've gone on record as a fan of the DVC7 but I would scratch that one out since it needs a XLR adapter and is only 1ccd. Now for other projects that's not a problem but for broadcast 3ccd is what you need.

Here's a bit of trivia. The Sony DSR-PD150 is the most used ENG camera in Iraqi. One News organization spent $400,000 on the PD150 alone. The only problems they have had is of course sand. That shouldn't be of any concern to you and your needs. It's a work horse with power and with all the big boys using it in the field like FOX,MSNBC and CNN you know you are getting a great camera.

Now the camera has been discontinued in place of the PD170 but you still can find the camera online. Ebay has tons of them. Also the PD150 has better low light ability and a better lens compared to the VX series.

Here's the link to the story on the PD150.
