What is the best Windows XP video editing software on a limited budget? Can't Post

I am new to the forum, so not sure which listing to put this under. I am looking for a decent video editing software that will allow me to capture, edit and author and burn dvd. I would like something that is stable and dependable. I am limited on budget of about $100, but have seen quite a few out there from Ulead, Sony, etc. in that price range. I would like as much control as I can get while producing. In searching through what seems like hundreds of reviews you find software that seems like the answer and then person after person is dogging on it as being worthless or not dependable. It is really hard to get a feel for what is the truth and filter out what is truly a good purchase decision. If anyone can help please let me know.

Well, I can't say it's the "best" choice from the standpoints of stability or functionality...but the ONLY Windows software I can think of offhand that will do all that (capture, edit, author, burn) in your price range is Pinnacle Studio.

But before you buy it, check Canopus and Sony and see what their budget offerings have in the way of feature sets. Either one would be more stable than Studio, in my opinion.

Vegas Movie Studio is under $100. For slightly over $100 you can get Vegas Movie Studio Platinum which can also handle HDV.

Both Movie Studio versions also include a version of DVD Architect for DVD authoring and burning.

Thanks, Ed...I didn't know Movie Studio could do DVD authoring. I'd recommend it over Pinnacle Studio.

Don't believe Final Cut Pro will run on Windows XP!

Not to mention that it'd be pirated software.

Are you joking again, Dan, or does someone actually have the chutzpah to have posted FCP on Limewire?

I was joking, Bear. I just wanted to see what you'd say. I know you're completely opposed to piracy, and rightly so. You could get anything except the ruby slippers on Limewire. Then again, they actually were stolen a while back weren't they?

I learned a great deal with a very low end package called ShowBiz... it came bundled with a firewire card I bougth about 3 years ago. I've since moved on to Adobe Premeire, but recently bought an HP DVD Burner that came bundled with ShowBiz DVD... a later version.
A great little cheap editing package that will do everything you need. It's made by ArcSoft... they have a website.

Best and budget can't really be in the same sentence
An Mpeg_2 editor which cuts out the bad parts or saves the good parts depending on what you're doing called "VideoReDoPlus" is all you really need. Doesn't do any effects or other such fluff, but it will give you a clean watchable production post haste (hehe) It doesn't re-encode the files so your done lickity split (jeeeez another one).
Womble mpeg wizzard is good as well
Burn the puppy using neoDVD
