XLR is a connector format, XDR is a model number for a Mackie preamp protocol. They're not related. Unless I've missed something. In searching Google for "XDR connector" I did discover that there is a software socket code known as XDR that isn't audio related at all...it's a transport for code from one app to another app, or one segment of an app to another app segment. XLR is the connector type you want for almost any audio recording. XLR is also known as "Cannon, Low-Z, low impedance, 3-pin" and a host of other names.
