computer problem, help!!!!!!! Can't Post

UnsureHello,
I have a problem with my camera not being able to see the video from my premiere software. I have all the settings right, but I still can't get the video to go through the firewire into the camera to see the video on it.
I also noticed that I have an exclamation point in the system hardware conflict. next to "System timer".
does anyone know how to fix that? I'm not sure if that has anything to do with my camera having problems or not.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone can help me asap, i am realy backed up on videos.
thanks a million in advance
Joyce

Don't know about the system timer problem, and that could be the cause, or a contributor. Try a Google search to suss out more info.

On the camcorder side:
- make sure the camera is in VTR mode, not camera mode.
- make sure Windows sees the camera. If you're not sure, try the following sequence:
1. Start with all equipment turned off.
2. Turn on the camcorder, in VTR mode.
3. Boot the computer. Windows should give you a "found new hardware" message.
If Windows does not see the camera, it could be your Firewire cable, the camera's 1394 port, or your computer's 1394 port. Some inexpensive Firewire cards have communication problems with various camcorders. Swap out devices/cables/cards to isolate the source of the problem.

- If Windows sees the camcorder, Premiere may still have a problem with "Print to Tape". If that's the case, make sure the timeline is rendered, then manually start your camcorder and then hit [Spacebar] to play the timeline.

thanks doug
let me explain it, i hope you can understand me
I have premire 6.5, I had a week ago, removed some old premiere programs, and it did not work after that.
Then I reinstalled some programs that associated with the program premiere. then it let me capture, and print to tape option ok, but I can't see anything on my camera from the timeline.
I hooked everything up to my laptop, and I can see everything ok.
I don't know what to do now, i know it is not camera or firewire cable, my capture card should not be a problem,
since I was just editing not long ago before all this mess.
thanks

OK, your removal and reinstallation activities have most likely messed up something.

I recommend you uninstall Premiere and then do a clean reinstall. However, you might get away with an easier fix:
- locate the prem60.prf file in the Premiere directory (filename may be slightly different, but the suffix will be .prf). Move that to another directory for safekeeping, and rename it something like "Premiere65preferencesBackup.prX", so Premiere won't find it and think it is the current .prf file.

- Restart Premiere. The software will rebuild the .prf file with all default values. You'll have to go through and re-set all your custom preferences.

- Save a copy of this .prf file after you've made all your changes. It will come in handy if you ever have to delete and rebuild the preferences file in the future.

One other non-Premiere thing to check: Windows XP likes to install a network bridge and identify your Firewire card as a network adapter (in addition to being a capture card). Check your hardware and networking information, and if you have a 1394 device in there, disable it.
