external HD trouble with new twist Can't Post

I have a 160g external drive that I use to move data around/back up. It has both firewire and usb hubs. I have one older machine that has firewire but old ubs 1.0 hubs. I've used the firewire input with this for quite some time. Now, all of a sudden, the drive won't show up on this computer when turned on. When I use usb it DOES show up. The firewire works fine with my other computers.

Of course, I can use the old usb, but its so slow that I really need to use the firewire for this to be an efficient back-up system. Any ideas of what might be wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Are you using the same firewire cable when switching the drive between computers? If not, it could be a bad cable hooked to the problem machine. If so, it might be a bad FW connector at the machine end.

I am using the same cable. That's what is so strange about the situation. And the computer's firewire inputs work because that's how I load footage. I haven't changed any settings that I know of either. Its a mystery!
