poor dissolves in Premiere 6.5... Can't Post

Unsure I'm having a problem getting Adobe Premiere 6.5 to add dissolves that actually look like dissolves. It seems the standard default 30 frames is woefully inadequate, and finished rendered product looks more like a cut than a dissolve.

I'm fairly new to Premiere and wonder if perhaps I'm doing something wrong. Anyone have suggestions? Do I simply need to increase the number of frames as my default setting?

you can change the length of time that it takes a disolve to happen. click on the effect, in the timeline, I believe, and a screen will appear that allows you to change the attributes associated with the disolve

Thanks ppaton... I kinda figured it our on my own after playing around a bit... my original post may have been a bit premature. Going from a very low end NLE program to Adobe can be a bit intimidating. I've ordered a book to help me through.
And of course this forum is very helpful.

I understand where you are comming from. You can also change the default duratio of the disolve in preferences I think.
when you upgrade to pro .5 you get to learn most of it all over again. as they changed a bunch of the stuff up enough that it didn't come intuitively for me any how

Tom,

You don't mention which book you are getting, but let me suggest "Sams Teach yourself Adobe Premiere 6.5 in 24 hours," authored by Jeff Sengstack. It's a wonderful down to earth text that covers from soup to nuts of the software in a language style that's conversational and very clear. Can't endorse it enough. Jeff's also written a book on Pro. I will soon be switching from Adobe to Avid Liquid, and this reference book will be one of the things I will miss most.

Cheers,

Michael Colford
