I have a question. I am buying a Shure microflex PCM microphone for my Canon GL2. What should I get? a Cardioid, a Supercardioid or a a Omnidirectional
One. I was thinking of using this at the ceremony in conjuction with my Wireless mic, If I am allowed to video close to the altar., or any recomendations. I am willing to spens about $180.00

As long as you're using wireless, I'd use the on-camera mic just for sync. There's not really anyting "on-camera" that will be useful on the video other than for "sync" during editing.

That being said, a Zoom H2 is $180 at B&H. Use it to record readings, quartetes, etc, (get a 2nd one). It doesn't matter how close you get to the altar...unless you get within 12 inches...on-cam audio is useless for anything other than ambient audio and sync.

Good luck dude!!! The Zoom H2 could get you some good readings, and you can also put it on a stick in front of the Dj's speakers so that people can actually hear toasts on your video. Also good to have a 2nd one to record string squartets...but don't worry about that too much unless you think your videos are worth the effort.

And if your wireless mic sucks for the vows due to church restrictions or the fact that many churches now prohibit wireless mics.... check out Uncle Rusty's Cheap Vows Recorder! http://www.videouniversity.com/...orum.cgi?post=487766

Good luck!!!!!!

I got a black omnidirectional one for mic'n the groom, since you want to be able to pick up the bride as well. Got mine with a 1' cord so that I can just drop it in his pocket.

I also ordered a white one with a 3' white cord, for doing Filipino weddings where they don't wear tuxes (just those see-thru white shirts) so that I can put it in their pants pocket, as well for weddings where the groom wears a white tux. The Giant Squids are so affordable, I figured I can finally get both! ;)

Now if only that cheap Olympus recorder did 48k audio...it'd be awesome! But syncing ain't so bad...just more work. Unsure One day I'll find the perfect pocket-vows-recorder.

Awesome, they're great little recorders for the price! I picked up some silicone jackets for mine, from "Unique Squared" on eBay. Only $12.49/free shipping. They make your H2 bulletproof, but best of all, the silicone means they "stick" to lecterns and tables and won't get knocked off very easily. WELL worth the cost, IMHO!

Oh I just mean those podium thingies where they do the scripture readings, sermons, singing, etc, at the churches.

It's always smart to ask which one they'll do the readings on...I often don't ask...and if I only put an H2 on one of the lecterns...it usually turns out to be the one they don't use at all. Laugh

Did you get the Mono or Stereo version?

Mono works just fine for me, for just recording wedding vows.
