Need advice on next camera purchase... Can't Post

Sorry if this is in wrong forum, didn't see any others that quite fit the bill.

Anyway, I received a Sony DCR-TRV27 as a hand me down yesterday. It's a nice little camera, but I've already saved up quite a bit of cash for a really reliable camera. I've looked around eBay and I've seen a few XL1's selling for just under $1000. That's about what my price limit is.

Can anyone suggest what camera I should consider purchasing?

Basically, it is a camera that costs less than $1000 on eBay, since eBay will most likely be my place of purchase. The camera has to have 3 CCD's, Firewire/i.Link, and a good array of accessories and lenses.

Thanks!

(And a quick note to my friend Mira, who I accidentally whacked in the back of the head with a lightsaber prop, I'm sorry, please don't dismember me during the next practice).

Hey Crimsus, I recommend you look around and learn what the going price is for a Camera. The XL1 will not sell for under $1000.00. What you see on ebay is the lastest bid on a camera. Watch a particular camera and see what the final bid and that will give you a rough idea of the Price on that camera. I too am looking and have learn a lot. Beware: Scammers are out there waiting for suckers. If the price is too good to be true, then it is probably not true. If they are out of the country, run. If they send you a link to a escrow site they recommend, run faster. I heard people here say BHphoto.com is a good place to buy. They are lower then retail. For whatever reason, most cameras are sold out of NY and they advertise low prices to lure you in and then want to sell you a package deal. Usually if you don't buy they will say that camera is on back order or we will have some in next week. If you buy on Ebay, make sure they are in this country and ask for a phone number and talk to the person. If they won't talk to you don't mess with them. I don't think you will find what you want for under a $1000.00.

Ok, I understand the basics of how to use eBay. With all do respect though, that isn't what I asked for. I wanted opinions on what a good choice for a camera would be using the "preferred" options I originally posted.

What would be a good camera to step up to that fits what I originally posted and is under $1000?

It really depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to make money with it, you really need another $1500 plus. Try going to BHphotovideo.com, find your way to consumer camcorders, and sort the search by price from high to low and professional camcorders and sort from low to high. You'll get an idea of a lot of cameras to look into.

You might find a used Sony VX-1000 or a TRV-900 for about $1,000. Either one would be a nice step up from the TRV-25. See my article in the Library about buying a used camcorder for some things to look for.
