I have owned a Trv 33 Sony Handycam for over two years now and I am getting certified for scuba, I want to buy a cheap underwater housing for the camera, but which ones are compatible. They have to be able to go down at least one hundred feet and cannot be one of the bag cases. Which one is right for me? You're on the right track, none of the Ewa-Marine(bag) cases will work at 100'. What's your definition of "cheap"? Typically a housing costs at least 1-1/2-2X more than the camera - or more. A primary consideration is how much control you'll want to have over the camera underwater. This can range from no control, some manual control, full manual control of all the camera functions, some electronic control or full electronic control of the camcorder functions. Since your TRV-33 has a Control L/LANC port, any of these options will work. With the most basic housings, you would start the camera, seal it in the housing and go dive with it running the whole time. A slight upgrade will give you stop/start control. A step up from that will give you zoom control, then manual white balance(to compensate for the loss of reds at depth) and the best housings offer control over basically all the camera functions, including still photography. Also the better housings will typically have the option to either use your LCD screen or add a remote one at the back/top of the housing - although some of the basic tube housings are also wide enough for this to work. Here are links to manufacturers that have a housing for your camera, priced roughly $400-1800 - depending on options selected. http://www.yellowjackethousings.com/ http://www.aquatix.com/aquacam.htm http://www.atmoseal-eng.com/aquavaul.htm http://www.ikelite.com/...ages/sony_trv33.html http://www.topdawgvideo.com/ http://www.underwatervideohousings.com/housings_specs.shtml http://www.oceanimagesinc.com/.../dolphin_minitrv.htm http://www.usvh.com/H.html There are of course other options, these are some of the more common choices. I maintain a list of all the housing manufacturers (that I'm made aware of) here: http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=96646 Also check Backscatter and B&H Photo Video when you're ready to buy, they often have better deals. Backscatter also sells used equipment. www.backscatter.com www.bhphotovideo.com hth, Steve
