Underwater case for Sony HDR-HC1? Can't Post

is there a device more suitable that my current device, which is double ziplocked bags that are taped for extra securtiy. (bag pulled tight and taped to remain tight over lens to prevent distortion) I know it wouldn't take the pressure of several feet down but it has proven successful in surface level shooting under water conditions. (streams, swimming pools...)

Are there any underwater pressure resistant cases recommended to hold the Sony HDR-HC1?

Are you looking for another bag? If so, ewa-marine makes a much better one. For your camera it's their model VMX. http://www.ewa-marine.de/.../camcorder/e-vmx.htm Should be good to about 30' or less.

They're around $300 at places like BHPhotovideo.com. I see them on eBay periodically for much less. Adorama has it right now for $296: http://www.adorama.com/EWVMX.html

If you're looking for a more solid housing for your camcorder, Epiccam makes a simple tube type housing that might work. I'm not sure if you're camera will fit in it though. It on the surface to a depth of a couple of feet. It's more of a surf/kayak housing than a dive housing, so it's only for the surface to a depth of about 20' or so. www.epiccam.com They're around $3-400 depending on the model. There's what looks to be an Epic Elite listed on eBay right now for $100. Auction # 7552314197

If you want to dive with your HC1, there are several mfr's making a dive housing for it. Seacam Subsea makes one. http://www.seacamsys.com/HD_H1.htm It's $1700 plus when you add the options. Or it will fit in Light & Motion's Bluefin. http://www.uwimaging.com/...900/bluefin_v900.htm $3099 plus options.

I have to ask, what would compel you to put a $2K HD camera in two plastic bags and take it in the water? Wish I had your kind of disposable income... (or luck)

hth,

Steve

Thanks Steve,

I think the middle range version you described would be ideal, thanks for all the options!

I wanted to get a stream crossing shot from the stream's eye view.

I know Ziplock knows their stuff and I backed it up with tape.

I knew that the camera would be absolutely safe, there is no risk involved.

I like to get neat shots, and sometimes risking the camera is worth it :)
