To view the story I refer to, go to this link and scroll down...look for the "video headline" titled "Music Piracy". This site changes daily so not sure how long it will have this headline listed... http://www.nbc11.com/ : Ok...I know this issue has been neat to death here, and some dislike the topic. : ...if you are one who does not wish to discuss copyrighted music in our videos, stop reading. PLEASE dont clog up the board with "Oh no not this again" messages....thanks. : : Still with me?? Ok.... : I subscribe to a service called the FeedRoom. Basically, newsclips on video, using my hi-speed internet. : According to one news story, a court case was won today by companies in the recording industry. : To sum up -- a judge has ruled that file swapping services like Kazaa and Grokster, etc are illegal if it involves copyrighted material, and that they are now be required to turn over the names of its users to record company attorneys upon request or else face a lawuit themselves...........it goes on to say that the record companies are going after folks who participate in music swapping...ie, downloading music off of the internet. : Now......is there any question that the music industry is interested in stopping ALL unauthorized use of its copyrighted stuff?? : If they are looking into stopping Joe Public from downloading songs of the net to use in their walkman radios (what some would consider fair use), how long do you think it will be before they start going after folks using their property (songs) in money-making ventures like wedding hi-lights videos and such?? : Unless this ruling is reversed, it is starting to look like the record companies ARE interested in stopping what we have previously asssumed they wouldnt "bother" with becuase it involved "the little guy".....you could blow this off as being an effort to scare folks into not doing it, and that they have no real power, but IMHO this ruling now gives the record labels legal precedent to prosecute folks at will. And just the cost allow in defending yourself against these greedy bastards could bankrupt you. : Go to www.feedroom.com...look for a link called "file-swapping crackdon"..... : ...kinda scary if you ask me.
