And just how usefull is that

What?!? Are you silly, have you ever tried to use the bubble level on a tripod to hang a picture, this thing looks much sweeter!

I would say the black model would be an almost must for wedding work, at least for all of you people who like to use the word "unobtrusive". Cool

I'm sorry, but this looks like a waste of money

I'm not so sure Ron...as I will soon find out Sly

Unlike my glidecam that due to the capital investment I felt compelled to use it as much as possible, this thing is cheap enough so if I only use it for a few selected shots (things I either don't want to setup the glidecam for, or don't have the room, or etc...) the capital investment/use time ratio is rather low.

One other use, for me, it to get my camera light slightly off axis from the camera to reduce the direct light into subjects eyes. Granted I can do this with a variety of stablizer-like devices and such, but once again, I don't want to spend another 200 and up for something I might only use once and it goes into the closet or up on ebay....

I emailed this company. (I thought I knew one of the guys in the video - turns out I didn't.) Anyway, the inventor said this:

"I also have another invention coming out in a few weeks called "Leverpod" It will work with Levelcam."

I don't know if "Leverpod" is a typo and should read "Levelpod". My point being, there's most likely a full line of accessories being designed for this thing and $50 is just the start.

I'm wondering if just setting your cam on a piece of plywood wouldn't do the same thing. Laugh

Mark,

Yeah, please give us a review on this if you would.

And Ric, probably and it would give you multi-layering as well! Wink

Nope. The Glidecam folks already got a patent on that.

I just used the level cam for three weddings recently and I just love it. It attaches to my tripod very well and I used it as an arm rest when I was adjusting my focus or Iris on my Z1U.

Lou,
Have you noticed how you can get great dutch angle shots (steady) with the thing? This capability alone is worth the 50 bucks....

Mark or Bill,

I interested in seeing some footage shot with the levelcam. I'm sure a lot of us would appreciate it if you could post some footage when you have time.

Thanks,

Chris

Re: [Chris H.] Anyone seen this product? [In reply to] Can't Post

ok, I got my levelcam in the mail today, and I have to say it was smaller than I pictured. I still am a little fuzzy about mounting the quick release to it, but no biggie right now. I took it to the zoo with my son and my wife, so here's what I got. I will save my impressions so as not to cloud the responses. I laid these shots on the timeline and rendered .wmv I have done no work other than that. Discuss.

Bill,

I liked the shots of you following your son. I think those would definitely be smoother than just using the camera handheld. I imagine the levelcam would be pretty effective with a fisheye for some Van Lanken moving camera-type shots. I'm anxious to hear what you think.

Thanks for posting.

Bill, looks pretty good and much better than it would be just handheld running around. Doesn't replace what the GC does, BUT I could see this in densely packed receptions where a "Dave Williams Incident" could occur frequently. I'm ordering one today and I'll get another Bogen QR base too since I keep a plate on all 3 cams, tripods, GC, etc.

Ya know, it's weird. It's become a cult thing - a rite of passage for many clients. Just this weekend a really pretty bride stuck her face out and taunted me. "C'mon Dave, hit me with that thing! Take your best shot! I dare ya!" I felt bad messing up her face like that, but she asked for it.

Well,
I have to say that I was pretty happy with the results as well. I am not standing behind the footage as brilliant or anything, but I see that it is definately an improvement. I was actually pretty impressed at the capability to zoom even half way in and follow a moving subject. I may never get a glidecam, but if I can "fake" it part of the time, that might suffice...

I'm sorry, but ever since I saw that one clip it has burned in my mind. I had a couple of those glamour moments with the GC too. You're too funny.

You might want to still look at the GC or a merlin. Depends on what you want. I will say that for that reception footage, this thing would have done good faking some shots as it looked pretty cramped anyways and would get in the way with a GC. Wink

It's ordered and also ordered another Bogen 577 assembly. B&H, Adorama, and all those are closed for their month long holiday. I got it from 4VideoEquipment.com Paid $10 more, but its on its way. Maybe it will all be here before Saturday's wedding and we can play.

Don't spend all that commission in one whack. Laugh

They should atleast give you another one for all the sales you generated for them. And maybe you can redesign their website because if I stumbled onto it by casual browsing, I wouldn't have bought it............. someone needs to help them out.
