Re: [Mark Foley] Anyone seen this product? [In reply to] Can't Post

I might just order one as well.
I don't see it replacing my DVMulti Rig for shooting with my main camera, as I shoot with it all day long (ceremony and reception). But it might do nicely with one of my backup camera's for quick prep or establishing shots before a wedding.

I got mine in today. I could make this thing in about 30 minutes for about $8 or less and look just as good or better.Shocked Atleast the product looks better than his website.Laugh

Well, I charge a minimum of $150 an hour, so it's still cheaper than I could make it. Laugh

That 30 minutes is for the first one. I bet I could bang out about 10-20 per hour once I got setup................ we'll see how good it works tomorrow.

If you feel it works Jerome, you going to go into competition with them? Cool

No. I don't have time to do something else at the moment. Besides, he has a patent applied for it.Wink

I tell ya....I wish I had the applied patent for this....

The first time I used this device I was blown away at the new mobility it afforded me. However, I didn't want to give full endorsement until I used it again (just to be sure). After using it again yesterday, this things is worth EVERY penny. I didn't even use my glidecam last night (too crowded). But this thing got me into places I would have never been able to do before and because I am able to do a slight offset lighting, I never got a single complaint (verbal or nonverbal) from the guests.....

Mark are you able to post your setup. I'm curious as to how you mount your offset lighting on the rig.
I should have my next week, and maybe take it for a whirl on my next wedding. I still see using my DVMulti Rig mostly, as I said for my main camera. But would like to give this a try with my second cam.

Here it is...

edit: I used a NRG ball tilt mount http://www.bhphotovideo.com/...ch&Q=*&bhs=t
to mount the light to the cold shoe that I got here: http://shop.dm-accessories.com/...d-to-cold-shoe-mount
I attached the cold shoe to one of the pre-drilled holes in the far corner of the level cam as seen below

Re: [Mark Foley] Anyone seen this product? [In reply to] Can't Post

I just received the levelcam, but have not used it at a gig yet.

I attached a Sony 10/20 light with the luminquest softbox like your set up directly to the same outside hole using a knurled bolt through the supplied hole in the Sony light.

The lumniquest softbox knocks the light intensity and throw waaaay down, but makes it imminently acceptable for relatively close in work which I feel will be the levelcam's forte' use.

I realize adding the ball tilt adds vertical flexibility, but with the intensity and throw so limited do you feel it is truly necessary in your hands on real use experience so far?

I mean, I can see it's advantage if using the Sony "unleashed" (aka: without softbox as the light is harsh in the eyes point on), but in room testing I found with the softbox on I can look right at the cam (mirror checking) with the light mounted at the side like you show without issue, even very close up.

Short answer...yes....

The ball tilt enables the light to go even a bit more off axis...nice effect when panning across objects at close range....

My 10/20 light has always been my short throw process...as I have a NRG varalux when I need to light up the world
