Cable Television Show ----- Long Can't Post

A couple of weeks ago we signed a contract with the local cable company to air a half hour program which we create, direct, shoot and edit.
We call it The New Orleans Bride.
Our first show aired June 11.
We never realized how hard it is to be on "the other side" of the camera.
We almost gave up after hours of shooting then running upstairs to edit.
We finally finished shooting at 1am.
Talk about nervous when air time came.
We put the word out to brides, vendors, family and friends.
Strange feeling seeing yourself on
television...trying to be yourself.
Our goal with this show is to showcase different, professional wedding industry vendors.
Everyone from florists, photographers, caterers, bridal salons, musicians, etc.
Even other videographers.
It's not just a show about
Custom Video by Terry.
We want it to be a showcase of wedding vendors.
Immediately after the show aired the phone started ringing and the e'mails were flying in.
In order to get an idea of how many brides were watching, we had a contest.
We're giving away a gift certificate to an excellent restaurant in town. The bride had to e'mail us with the names of 2 of her vendors and the key word "bride".
Response has been extremely generous.
We are also creating a website with the same name that we will market to brides and vendors.
Where vendors can post their info and link their web address to AND we'll create a short web video for them of their product/service.
A site that we will maintain and market heavily.
Our heads are spinning with creative marketing ideas.
As far as marketing other videographers.
We can't shoot all the weddings in this metro area alone. We turn away more weddings because I simply do not want to shoot more than 50 weddings a year.
With the increases in prices over the past several months and upcoming months, we probably won't be turning away so many anymore, but our MAIN goal with the other videographers is to promote PROFESSIONAL, MATURE, UNOBTRUSIVE, BEAUTIFUL video companies that we believe uphold the standards in professional video.
Then perhaps the bride will say to herself, "I NEED video".
The same way she says to herself,
"I need a photographer".
We're very excited about what the future holds in this new adventure.
Wish me luck....I'm in FRONT of the camera again tomorrow. yikes.

That sounds great Terry.
You may recall that it was your inspiring
tale of the promo clip for your local wedding
magazine, that led me to offer the same to
my local wedding magazine website.
The wedding mag lady was so impressed that she
shared with me her dream of producing a show
just like yours, up here in NH. She just needed
someone to do video.
She is still working on it, but I'm looking forward
to the work. Since I have had no experience, I
decided to treat it much like a wedding.
I offered her 8 hours of coverage, edit included,
for $2000 worth of advertising, bridal show attendance,
etc. It has all been verbal so far so anyone can
feel free to set me straight.
Best wishes Terry! I'm sure your show will be
as beautiful as your wedding videos. The vendors
are going to love all the added business.
-Cesar

Re: Cable Television Show - great idea [In reply to] Can't Post

So, a couple of questions:
-How is this funded? Out of your pocket, the other vendors or advertising?
-What's your format? In other words, what is the breakdown of the shows content?
-What is the schedule? Weekly, monthly or ?
-How do you have time for it? ;)
Let's see a sample...

Terry,
I've got to ask:
Where did you find the time?
Best of luck,
Joel

I have to search real hard.
But I know that you know that when you have a passion
for something and truely believe in what you're doing....
you make time.
We have 2 full time employees now and they are fantastic,
and not just because one is my son and the other is his
significant other.
What's wonderful about them is they are truly "plugged in"
to this business. They will be attending WEVA this year also.
We're very excited.
I'm now at the office from 9am till 7pm daily sometimes
6 days a week, but my adrenalin is pumping and so is my heart.
(been working out lately too, imagine that :-)
I have a personal trainer. I have to be and stay strong
to keep up the pace. But we are so enjoying this time in
our lives and career.
I wish for everyone to be as happy as we are in doing what
they love to do.
Stress? yes it's still readily available to me, but I just
try to prioritize and move on.

----------First show we paid for ourselves, $360. 2nd show will have 1 photographer, 1 wedding planner and 2 reception venues, 1 stationary studio. Each pay $100 each for their segment (introductory price).
: -What's your format? In other words, what is the breakdown of the shows content?
------------I'm trying to get the program online but I keep getting error messages, sorry, but I'll keep trying. It's 28 mins. 40 secs. long.
It's video, me talking about why the show exists, video, julian talking about a bridal show we shot and participated in, etc, etc.
: -What is the schedule? Weekly, monthly or ?
----------------
Because we didn't know for sure if other vendors would come on board or how soon, we chose every other Wednesday, but now we have several vendors who want to pay to be on the show and have it on every week.
I can't wait to send the website link.
It's being worked on right now.
: -How do you have time for it? ;)
-------------
See above post to Joel lol
but it's not easy that's for sure, but better than being bored.
Sometimes I think back to the days when I used to watch soap operas, wow, has my life changed, but exactly into the way I want it :-)
