Chris W's Trailer Thread (updated the Monday after a wedding) Can't Post

Hey Guys,

Instead of polluting the forum with several trailer threads, I decided to just consolidate them here in one that will be updated pretty regularily. Here's the trailers I've produced so far (the most recent is near the top)....

http://dallasweddingfilms.net/?cat=15

The latest one is for a wedding I did on 02/17/07. I decided to use something a little softer and more cinematic for this one as well as mixing in some time shifting and more natural audio. I also continue the trend of writing some kinda cheesy trailer copy but at least I haven't used "in a world...." yet. I also decided to do a second segment called "Watson Videography Candids" which is basically cleaned up raw footage of some cool moments during the day. This might offer a way for those who are concerned about production time to post something on their blog without alot of post time. Anyway here it is....

http://dallasweddingfilms.net/?p=56

I welcome comments pro and con. BTW, this is my 1000th post. Looks like I'm an official time waster now. Wink

Can't watch it now, but will later on at home. Looking forward to it.

By the way, I'm right behind you, closing the gap on becoming a "I-have-no-life" video editor! Unimpressed

Hey, did you go bludomain on us? Looks awesome.

Didn't see you referencing Joe Ellis as one of your favorite photogs - and didn't he take your studly headshot?

On the blog, right-on in getting something posted the monday after for maximum traffic and raving love. One change I suggest - putting the video at the very top...maybe right under the photo of you doing your best "Raoul."

Rock on!

Hey Chris,

That is indeed a Blu Domain site. Been looking at getting one for a while and finally pulled the trigger when they had them on sale for $400. I love working with Joe and he has a gallery set aside. Just need some pics from him. BTW, Kevin Jairaj took my headshot. One of the main reasons I started doing trailers was the blog. After all, we can play the whole cashing in on the afterglow thing that photogs enjoy. Just takes a little extra work. It's still too early to tell if there will be a difference but if you're experience is any indicator then I expect great things. Thanks for being one of the blogging trailblazers in our area. YOU rock on.

PS: Thanks for the suggestion on the video placement. Great idea.

Chris
I only watched Dan & Marisa's trailer. That was great and you inspired me dude! I'm really wanting to do a trailer on my current edit but I just can't seem to find the right groove for it. I want something softer like you did here because it fits this couple. Also, it seems to me that to be a true movie trailer it should have VO creating the suspense. Your use of text fits perfectly with what I want to do. I hope you don't mind my copying the idea? Dog gone it! Now your going to have me checking your trailers all the time!Smile

The great thing about trailers is that there's only one rule: Leave Them Wanting More and do it in less than 2 1/2 minutes. The rest is up to us. I hope the one thing I can contribute is that not all wedding trailers have to be one thing or one style. They can run the gamut just the same as any part of the wedding video. Part of the fun is exploring the possibilities. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Nice! Way to bargain shop. Those sites create quite the emotional experience that leads to closing the deal!

My bad - don't know why I thought it was Joe.

Hey, are you on Mary Wright-Shah's list of preferred vendors. I met with one of her clients tonight and when I asked about the videographers MWS recommended (then named a few), the bride seemed to remember your name.

If true, congrats! I've never worked with her before and hear she does some biggees!

The biggest weddings I've worked on she's coordinated. Didn't know I was on her list. That's pretty cool. She's a very good person to know in Big D.

I love the fact that you're a man and you're blogging. I've heard that mostly women do it. I browsed your blog after I watched the 2 trailers. The trailers and blog content was VERY NICE.

Hey Chris,

Thanks for popping in and commenting. It was great seeing you again in Florida. My motto this year is "Real Men Blog". I definitely think that blogging is more of a female thing than a man thing but then again, who is our target demographic? Anyway, got more stuff coming this week but sadly no trailer. I have the weekend off. I do have another three weddings in a row starting next week so watch this space.

Well, I'm impressed that you remember me.

As for blogging, I've copied the thread to My Notes file so that if/when I do set up a blog I have some cheat notes.

Since Florida I've done a ton of depositions and for the next 6 days I'll be on VU trying to gear up for my first wedding since September. I have 3 in March and need to find some inspiration fast, while doing even more depositions. I saw a few things in your trailers that was on your 2005 training dvd so that helped some (I probably won't say it right but it was the 'moving in while zooming out shot' or was it the opposite? LOL).

Enjoy your weekend off.

I'll flag your blog to watch for more inspiration to blog and do wedding videos.

I'm usually bad about remembering people. I just remember running into you and the Atlanta Mafia the past few conferences and some names and faces stuck. I've got a couple of articles for the blog that are in various stages of completion so expect a little more activity soon. This week I've been dedicating alot of overtime on my backlog getting it taken care of and the blog has taken a back seat. Good luck on your first '07 wedding and stay in touch.

Chris babe - I know this has been up for a while - just got a chance to watch some. I really liked how you shared the some raw footage then shared the trailer.

As a videographer I really appreciated it before and after.

As a woman it struck a chord with me. Romantic and true. Great job.
