Concept Videos: Movie spoofs for weddings Can't Post

Just thought we'd share this. This is how we got started in the wedding video business.

A few years back, we were asked to capture a friend's wedding on video. When we were in college, we used to make some funny movie spoofs so we thought that it would be a neat idea to do one for their wedding. We showed it after their photo montage and the crowd loved it. We've been doing them ever since, and now they've become the "trailers" before the Same Day Edit video or even before their grand entrance.

Here's are a couple of links to some of our earlier works:

http://www.vimeo.com/752767

http://www.vimeo.com/752835

We've done everything from "The Godfather" to "Star Wars", romantic comedies like "Jerry Maguire" and "Notting Hill".... even movies as obscure as "Napoleon Dynamite" (which some of you may have seen at VIDEO 08). Somehow we're able to twist the familiar plots and dialogue to fit into the wedding.

They may seem strange and silly, but the guests love it and it's a memorable experience for the couple and all involved.

So you do everything yourself from screenplay, filming, editing, sound ? Do you have a crew when you shoot ? How many days does it take to film all the required scenes ?

What's the average production cost for these type of productions ?

Re: [imacron-usa] Concept Videos: Movie spoofs for weddings [In reply to] Can't Post

I collaborate with the couple about the scenes we want to do but from then on it's pretty much a one-man production. I write the screenplay, storyboard, shoot, and edit the production (my wife occasionally comes out to shoot behind-the-scenes footage). We usually try to cover everything in one day (8 hours), shooting scenes with the most people first. If we don't finish or if I find that we need to add a scene after a rough edit, we will schedule pick-up shots which only takes an hour or two. Production cost is very minimal other than maybe some costuming. They are a lot of fun to do and the "premiere" at the reception is well worth all the hard work.

Here's an entry on our blog regarding some of our pre-production process: blog

Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, everyone. Truly blesses my heart.

But yes, the crowd goes nuts every time. We usually tag them at the end of a photo montage (most wedding guests expect to see a montage of the couple). But when the movie plays they lose their minds. In November, we did Wedding Crashers and the crowd was laughing so hard that you couldn't even hear the dialogue!

Here's a sample of what it's like to see the premiere (you'll need Quictime to view it):

Watch the Kiss Bill premiere

thanks, Natty. we've been approached to use them as "save the dates" but we'd have to shoot them far in advance. scheduling is the hardest part of the process since we have to get as many members of the cast together to meet on a weekend. there have been times we weren't able to shoot the movie because the couple couldn't get their friends together or they got busier the closer it got to the wedding. (I have a script for "Charlie's Angels" and "Office Space" somewhere in my file cabinet) Wink I call the movie trailer/SDE combo our One-Two punch. Tongue
