DVShop is the BEST! My new HD Monsters Can't Post

Hi Everybody,
Saw Don’s post about DVShop and reminded me that I’m overdue for a little praise for Tony Hale and the boys in Atlanta. I have been searching for the HD editing computer solution for 3 months. Met Tony in Orlando (not Tony Orlando) Wink and he was such a nice guy and very knowledgeable about all the different choices and configurations that were possible. When I got back I looked into cheaper avenues and finally decided it was worth the money to have a pro build it and back it up with his reputation and service. Received 2 of these beauties a week ago and already I’m very happy editor. Haven’t burned any BR DVDs yet, we will be at that point very soon. This is truly a well built, beautiful machine. Could not be happier. Smile

Wow Steve that is very impressive. Can't wait to hear how Bluray burning goes.

Sounds like some kick-ass machines! Although I'm sure it won't have the same good looks as the one I saw in that Birthday video Tongue
Do keep us posted on the Blue-ray side of things, we're getting our first requests for info here (although none of them have a Blue-ray deviceCrazy). I guess it's the result of the death of HD-DVD they've plastered all over the news in the past few weeks.

Oh yeah, Steve, we know you're deep into Worlds of Warcraft (or is it Half Life?). Really screamin' machines. But I'm curious - why are they still putting parallel ports on PCs like these? Are there that many Okidata dot matrix printers still out there?

I know, weird isn't it. Maybe just a habit or maybe it's the thinking, that you never know when it will be needed. Maybe for the third world countries. Wink

You need more RAM!!! That thing sounds like a beast but it is going to bottle neck at the RAM.

I'm not sure that XP can truly "utilize" more than 4 gigs effectively. It's not like a Mac where the performance keepts increasing as you add more ram. On some XP machines they have noted a slight "decrease" in performance when gobs of ram are installed! Bizzare.

Either way congrats Steve- I know how exciting it is to get a new monster system. Btw, if you dont mind me asking how much did one of these puppies cost?

How? His OS can't even use the 4gb he has now.

And I find it interesting how one can spend so much money on a system, rave about it yet the thing won't capture footage. Laugh

Capturing just fine now. I had a bad FW cable and had my Canon HD20 on the wrong settings. System is working great. When you get a new system that solves all of your problems- you too will rave Mr. Steel.

Well, now that you mention it...

I've been using my new (and "cheap") quad Dell for about a week now. Definately not as many trinkets as yours but everything screams on my GeForce 8800GT, 2TB drives and 4gb ram. Looks great on dual 22" monitors too. Tongue And 12 USB ports should get me by for a while (Thanks, but no thanks to a RAID setup). All for just under $1700. (I applied a crapload of discount coupons).

I do envy your parallel ports though... I've got an old HP LaserJet that won't die and uses some silly-assed half centronics thingey which I need to find before it'll work off USB. Unsure

But you and I are old enough to know this crap is all about, "service after the sale". I think we're both ok there.

TIP: Keep the side cover off that thing... it'll run 20 degrees cooler and heat the office. Laugh

I saw USB to Centronics printer cables at both Best Buy and Circuit City last weekend.

I have a similar but different problem: My wife's company has an old SmartBoard (like a big whiteboard, draw on it with markers & import to a computer or print to a printer) and the printer died. They got a new printer with only a USB-B input. The Smartboard only has a parallel port for printing. I've looked at a lot of places but I can't find a (computer, not centronics) parallel port to USB-B cable.

They won't work. Some of HP's older printers use a proprietary "mini" centronics port (Idiots). I can get one here but I'm too lazy to order it. I just hooked up the old HP to an older PC and presto... a wireless print server. Overkill but it'll do for now. Laugh

You might try the above link for your cable. They generally carry all this "oddball" stuff.

That's how I load my software. Wink Tony told me he kind of just had it laying around and I'm the last one to ever get one. It is useful though because it also is 7 in1 card reader CF, MD, SM, MS & SD MMC. Don't know if I will ever need it, but I have always like having things I will never use, like my treadmill, etc. Unsure
