Demo on CD-ROM? Can't Post

I saw a great demo video recently that was on cd rom. You just put the cd in the computer and it auto starts. I tried this in DVDIt and it works but might be a little confusing for the bride . Tried it in Easy Cd creator (video post card) but didn't get the chapter access. Any ideas? Anthony

Hi Anthony,
You'll need to convert the content to mpeg1 if on CD, add an autorun routine (just do a search for *autorun* on the search engines).
The search will also tell you what syntax you'll need on the CD.
There was a VideoTidbit at my site on this, but I think it has been pulled down.

Re: Demo on CD-ROM? [In reply to] Can't Post

We have been using Video CD roms for video content for years now, before they were big here in North America. I have found this information while working Overseas as VCD is used like we use vhs tapes here.
We use a product called onstage by visiblelight, its a bit costly but it enbeds the drivers needed to play the video onto the cd, so the computer that the cd is played on does not need any drivers to play as all the drivers needed are on the cd.
This way anyone with a cd player can view your content without instaling or downloading any drivers.
But this is kind of old technologi, so now maybe and I'm sure there is many others on the market that do the same thing or better. We still use it because it still works.
Keep in mind this is nothing specail as its old and its been around for many many years, if you need something with menus and chapter or what ever, this program will do it, but you need to author the CD in a very high end product like Director 7 or 8.5 and let me tell you this is much more difficult to master than a program like Media Studio Pro or Premiere, this is not a toy!!
Hope this sheds a bit of light on the subject of VCD.

The *best* way I've found to achieve this is with Macromedia Director 8.5. We're in the process of creating some nice interfaces with full interactivity...my current interface autostarts on a PC then can play MPEG1 videos (with full video controls as well as being able to move a slider to advance the video), MP3's, IPIX 360 degree images, connect to the web, even plays the arcade game Asteroids (hidden in there). As others have said, it does have a learning curve, but it's just a darn cool application! Eventually we plan to create some sort of pre-designed interfaces for wedding videographers...much like our wedding/corporate websites, PopSites.
All my best,

Re: Demo on CD-ROM? [In reply to] Can't Post

I recently sent out a few demos on CD-ROM to a few potential clients. I used the DivX codec(MPEG-4). MPEG-4 will soon be the replacement of MPEG-1. The picture quality and compression is so much better than MPEG-1. The only draw back was that these people had to install the codec. Good thing it's bundled nicely so that all they have to do was read my instructions, double click on the DIVX executable and press a few "next" buttons. I've gotten pretty good reviews about the demos on CD. I'll see if it was good enough to sign a contract.
DivX can be downloaded from www.divx.com. There are two versions of the codec DivX 5(free) and DivX Pro($30US). Free is good!
