marcel... To my understanding from my friend who sells the program @ Armato's.
It is very stable...Much more compared to Adobe.... It's interface and colours is a lot more user friendly than Adobe as well.
Also being able to drop effects between any and all videotracks as long as the tracks are next to each other is a major step over adobe...
Plus it only cost 300 bucks.. You'll make that cash back with one edit....
Drawbacks.... it works best as with ANY nle with a duel monitor setup.. Which I have and love... One monitor dropped on me tuesday and it'll be til next wednesday before the replacement peice for my video board comes in... It's a major pain in the ass working off one monitor after the luxury of the duel monitor setup....
You cannot have sub bins yet... ex. in Adobe all my tapes are in sub bins... so each camera has its own folder....
Also all my music is dropped in another folder...and then all my colour mattes, colour bars and titles go into another sub bin.... Finally all highlight clips are dropped into another bin.... For now Edius only has one main bin where everything goes...
Drawback.. No Picons... Those are the cute lil pics you see on the timeline when you work on adobe... if you work that way... I do.. I enjoy the quick reference when scrolling through the timeline...
Major plus..especially if your amulticam a/b roll type guy.... I think you mentioned you did a jazz mix recently on the board here Marcel... Now imagine this.. you sync your 2 or 3 or even FIVE cameras on video tracks with a flash or rim shot at the start of the video on the timeline.....
For each video track you put the real time 3d picture in picture effect on all the video clips.... and then you see all the cameras at once while you edit on your output monitor... and you cut out whatever and wherever you want to do away with the unused camera angles... For adobe you'll get dropped frames while working with just 2 camera angles running @ once...
With Edius I have read on the canopus boards with people working with 3 or 4 pip scrolling without a dropped frame.. that's how sturdy and capable the program is already without an update.... People with del xeons have boasted about 5 3d pip's moving at once....

Thats reason alone since multicam software for 4 cams will run you i think 400 and then yous till need an editing program....

Hope that helps you a bit.. also you can d/l edius for a demo where you cant save a program..but test drive the sucker... same with vegas video 4 which im gonna try tomorrow.. im thinking about adding alaptop to my editing collection....:-D

Also editing in Edius is supposed to be a lot quicker than the premiere way of editing...
It also has keyboard shortcuts which many of us here on the boards are shortcut junkies and will stay away from the mouse as much as possible durring an edit session.
Keep in mind premiere 7 is around the corner... prob between november and may of net year...
a very early demo version was shown @ nab this year with the dvd encore program... so between the end of the year and next nab we should see the program come to life.. Chances are it won't disappoint... but the 300 you spend o edius now is nothing comapred to the money you'll make off such a cheap expense...

Re: EDIUS how you all like it so far? [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm now editing exclusively in Edius even though there are probably things I could do better/easier in Premiere or Vegas. I figure the only way to learn it properly is to stick with it and pretend the other apps don't exist for a while. Edius has a different workflow and approach than Premiere - a bit of a culture shock to some people, I think.
For a version 1.0 editing application it seems fine. It's stable, works in real time and, once you get used to it, is extremely fast to edit with.
In my opinion it's probably sort of worth the $300 Canopus are asking now, but unless it gets some more features I'm not sure it's going to be worth the $600 they'll be asking in August - mostly they've still got a way to go with tweaking the user interface.
I believe it will ultimately be worth the investment though, as it's been engineered in such a way that new features can be easily added and Canopus see this as a competitor for higher-end editing systems such as Avid and will be working hard to get Edius to that standard.
Cheers
