EX-1 and battery drain Can't Post

After getting a Sony EX-1 and fully charging the batteries, I placed the BP-60 battery on the camera and left it in the case while I read the manual. In ten days it was totally drained. I then placed the BP-30 battery on the camera and it was totally drained in 5 days. The switch is definitely in the off position. Is this normal or do I have a problem with my new camera?

Some batteries will discharge over time if not used. It's often recommended to charge, use, discharge, and repeat a few times, even with no-mem batteries. Five days, though, seems quite fast. Quick example, sort of...I was packing up equipment for a wedding this weekend and came across some Sony batteries from an A1U that I haven't used since 2006 or so. The battery still held a full charge. Hmm.

This is a known problem with the EX1. I believe a firmware update is going to fix it.

Whenever you're not using the camera - remove that battery. I do that religiously.

Hey Lou. I do the same....I always store the camera with the battery removed. I have 2 small batteries and one large, 2 16GC and 2 8GB cards. To date I haven't had any problems getting through the day for corporte shoots. I will be using the camera for a wedding in a month or so and by that time will have an additional large battery. Overall....it's not as terrific as the Z1U but I have no complaints. BTW how do you you like your EX1? Pretty amazing, no?
Best, Craig...heres' a link to our new site for a piece we just did with the EX1

Hey Craig, I love my EX1 - it's great for different things. I recorded a (Violinist) concert and a birthday party with it last week. What I like is the amazing speed of loading the footage into my laptop. Soon I will be having my Weekday Brit Weddings in the city and I'll definitely will be using it in the PAL mode. So far so good.

Are you going to Weva in Orlando in August. I decided yesterday that I wanted to go.

Your Video about Casa Acqua is excellent - I just wanna gettaway from New Yuck for a month and hang out there and rejuvenate and recuperate.

Hi Lou, Glad you liked the clip. This is one of our new sites that we are creating to promote the Keys. We currently have quite a few more in the pipeline which you can preview on one of the links at the bottom of the page. The house featured rents for 10k a week.
