EX1 battery drain repaired Can't Post

FWIW I sent my EX1 in to have the battery drain problem repaired and thought I'd share the experience.

After being transfered from one dept to another four times, I finally got the correct place to send the camera to. I was told that when the EX1 is turned off, it actually goes into standby mode, and that is why the battery drained so quickly. I mailed the camera to Los Angeles, and was told there would be about a ten day turn around. My camera was returned seven weeks later. The battery drain issue was fixed, but they didn't reconnect the external power supply jack, so it is going back. At least this time they are paying the shipping charges.

I could have lived with the battery drain issue, but I leave the camera with friends to use on their two year old twin boys when I'm not using it. They are point and shoot people, so I wanted to make it easy for them to use.

Hey Bruce, Hopefully you'll get the firmware update and will be able to use the sd cards.

i gotta say, i dont think ill ever send my ex1 in for updates. sony taking weeks/months to do a simple update is ridiculous and most stories ive heard are related to them doing something wrong and the cam has to go back. how do they expect us to make money with the cam when they have it for 1/4 of the year, this is absurd. there is no reason why sony cant train local shops to be certified in these updates so our returns are quicker.

I havn't heard anything about an upgrade that allows use of SD cards. Are there any SD cards that are fast enough? Do you use an adaptor to make them fit? They certainly are much cheaper.

I have been using the Kensington 7 in 1 adapter, Transcend 8gb, 16gb cards. I have a post in the members section.
