First All EX1 SDE - in "HD"-NEW (lowlight) SDE ADDED Can't Post

Rather than start a new thread..thought i would just post this SDE on top here. I am posting because it has a lot of low light footage and I used the Sony WA on my camera the whole time. I am really pleased with it.

http://dvartistry.blogspot.com/...-culver-studios.html

Something with the Flash encoding caused it to be slightly out of sync with the music. I cannot figure out whats causing it!

{END OF EDIT}

I shot my first full wedding with my two EX1s and did my first all EX SDE. Very pleased with the quality now that the cameras match! The color rendition is amazing...i tried to encode it at high quality but it falls apart in some areas..esp a coupel GC shots.

Shot mostly in 1080/30p with a few overcrank shots mixed in so there is some strobing in some of the slo mo shots buts not near as noticable in full rez.. Didn't get to do as much with the filtering i had planned for this. Reason being as much as I am saving in importing, I am having to render more because of the footage being downconverted to SD for showing.

That’s is..until last night! I had another SDE last night and decided to try something different and it worked. What i did is just export a full quality QT file in HD and then hooked up my laptop to my projector via DVI to HDMI . It worked FLAWLESSLY! Very exciting cuz i dont have to deal with downconversion anymore!

BG were totally indifferent to the music I was going to use and said just pick whatever. I chose the Fray and with a little serendipity, the song went with the day pretty well. The chorus says "ooohh..Baby" and the bride actually said.."Hey baby" when they saw each other for first time so i was able to match it with the song. I love when stuff like that happens!

Also, the bride, who looked absolutely stunning, was 4 months prego so that kinda matched as well. :) You could hardly tell she was 4 months along except for that fact she was glowing all day.

The song is actually called "Look After You" so I thought that was appropriate as well. Smile

Beautiful Daniel, When you shot the Wedding did you use the SP mode or HQ mode for 1080/30p also did you use a the Sony wide angle lens during glidecam use and was it heavy?

Thanks,

Hey dude that was great! The shot at 3:02 with the slow pull-in of the bride taking a deep breath was killer!

Wow stuff looks incredible man! Good edit to boot, especially considering it's an SDE. I still can't get over how efficent many of you are at doing these!

Great song too, I was planning on using that song in my current edit (a prep sequence).

Hey Daniel fantastic job on your SDE. When projecting your SDE now in HD through your projector is there a substantial difference from SD that's easily viewable at the reception? I only ask cause this saturday is my first time projecting a video in HD at a venue. I did a quick test at the house but the viewing distance wasn't huge and I did notice a difference but not sure if the audience will. Thanks

Monday

See you guys later. Much love

The Ritz in Laguna! Beautiful venue.

Awesome work, again, Daniel. Great shot selection and camera movement. The images look nice on your new cams.

What make/model projector are you using?

Great job, Daniel!! Love the blue sky (we aren't seeing much of that around here lately! LOL!!)

I had a SDE this weekend where my stupid Firestore drive didn't work for me (not sure what the problem is) and I was longing for an EX1 or Z7U!! I had 2-1/2 hours of footage to weed through and it sucked up so much of my time!

Love that song too...it's a great one! Pretty cool how you were able to sync up 'baby'. The strobbing was distracting on some shots, but it's good to know that it's minimalized in full res.

Really fantastic work Daniel! The EX1 is getting to be very addictive! I have a quick question about same day edits in general. How long do you have to produce the piece and how many people do you have shooting when the piece is being produced? I would like to offer same day edits, but my entire booking is for only 4 to 6 hours. The ceremony is on the beach at 6pm and is over in 20 minutes, then they walk directly into the cocktail party and they are announced right after that, then formal dances happen ect. and we are out of there by 10pm. Is a same day edit possible with 3 people?
Thanks, and keep up the great work.
Best, Craig
BTW, I still have not recieved my extra 8GB card, but they say it's in the works, and the Schneider .06x WA is due out in about a week or so.

Thanks Lou..yes...definitely HQ. I havent even shot test footage in SP.

I dont have the Sont WA lens. I bought a very cheap Cavision Fisheye that i used in a few handheld shots (you can see the vignetting) until the Century Optics stuff comes out in April. (hopefully!)

The Glidecam set-up is heavy...but steady. (Though you cannot tell that in some of my wobbly GC shots) Crazy

Thanks Monday!

The difference was VERY noticable. My projector (Optoma H70) is capable of HD so it definitely stood out.

Audience? Probably wont be able to tell or really care. Smile

Honestly, thats how blue the sky was. That is little CCing..only some MB vignette filters and a little bit of saturation boost.

The SxS tapeless workflow is great. But takes some getting used to. So far it has only cut a ittle bit down on SDE time because of other considerations.

WHich i will be explaining in more detail later.

Thanks girl! Smile

Hey bud!

Only 2 of us working. My main guy shoots while i edit. It may be difficult for you with your time span. I do a LOT of Asian weddings and as my friends who also do them can attest, they are NEVER under 8 hours because of the tea ceremonies they have etc.

Its doable, but it may be something thats added on to a photo montage.

Do you show those?

Thanks Jeff!

Like most everyone else I am evolving my style and part of that is trying to use "love songs" that aren't cheddar cheesballs with a side of gouda. ( I am taking more control of the songs i use for SDEs)

I am trying to do less dissolvy stuff but i will always use slo-mo for SDEs.

Not even that bro (reference to slo-mo)...just plain romantic. No edge, pure emotional softness.

For me it's the difference between "hip" and "sexy"...that was sexy.

I had a bride let me pick recently and I used Best Days by Graham Colton and then she called me up and said she decided on a country song. So now I need a new couple for this song. When you get a chance, check it out.

There is also a great song called Ready for Love by Kelly Sweet.
