Here it is-SDE with Metallica song Can't Post

Really pleased with how the song turned out. Had some extra time to edit this (4.5 hours) so I experimented a little more than usual with coloring and filters.

I came up with some filters mixes to try and match the style of the bride (sorta retro-classic , Audrey Hepburn-ish) and the song. The song is kinda haunting and ethereal ..especially in the first part of it, so i used a lot of blurring to make it dream like. I also went with a desaturated look to go with her look and style.

Let me know what you think!

Wow! Loved it! So many great things going on here, but my favorite was just the overall feel. The fact that I really like Metallica didn't hurt Cool. Would have loved to have heard the original song, but this version is better suited to weddings I guess.

Great work. I'm sure they think it is the most amazing video ever!

Simply SMASHING!
I think that you could submit this to MTV (if they still did music videos) and it could be shown as is. Excellent color grading. I agree with your choice to desaturate a bit, as this was the style of these type of videos when they were popular.

BTW, who was the artist?

Michael

Cameras: I do use them.
Audio: Yes, it does come with audio if you like.
Software: I am learning...
Support: I need all that i can get.
Computer: MAC BABY!

WOW! A little extra time is nice, Smile coloring, letus useage, shot selection all top notch. Jason is in California right now, if he sees this he will move here. Great location, outside Santa Barbara? looked familar. The window shot of the first look was powerful. Great job Daniel, mark that one down for a CEA entry. Cool

Well there goes my gold AAA!! LOL!!

That was awesome, Daniel! What a gorgeous bride. I do wish the groom showed more emotion (I mean c'mon...look at how gorgeous his bride was!). Love the desaturated look and the song (my favorite Metallica song....well, maybe my favorite). Anyway, you are amazing!

Great work Daniel. I love the desaturated look and then going to some surreal colors for the ceremony. The soft focus and some blurred effects worked nice with the dreamy and somber feel of the song.

I will say that after seeing yours done to that song I think I will pass on that song. It's a little too slow and somber for my style.

Wow. I knew it was gonna be special when you were talking about it at lunch yesterday... but, man... that was really, REALLY great. Mesmerizing is the word that comes to mind. Great job, Daniel.

Lots of fun hanging out... still owe you a drink!!! Wink

Re: [Edit 1 Media] Here it is-SDE with Metallica song [In reply to] Can't Post

Haha! I appreciate it but not so fast girl. Your SDE takes on a whole new meaning when you involve that sort of thing and tell a story like that! Mine is just meaningless eye candy! Tongue (Besides, i am done entering stuff in contests anyways!)

Seriously though, I wanted to include some audio for more emotion but the BG would have none of it. The groom didnt even want prep of him at all. Thats why we just have a couple of shots of him in the video. But thats ok...more bride! They didnt even want their first sight "planned" I was doing a pull back of the bride at window when he suddenly just walked up..lucky i caught it and my asst was in place too!

Honestly though, this is what the BG wanted. They wanted an "artistic rendering" of their day..they didn't want a chessy piece because neither of them are really the type. I was very happy to catch some emotional moments candidly..my fav being when the bride collapses on maid of honors shoulder to tell her she loves her.

Thanks again! Smile

Slow and somber? Its slow in parts but - like a perfect SDE should- it has great build-ups and crescendos.

As far as being somber, you said yourself lots of times that lyrics don't matter....so.....Nothing else matters Kenny!! CoolCoolCool <rimshot>

Thanks for watching dude!!

Actually I think the lyrics are perfect for a wedding. If it wasn't a Metallica song you might think it was actually a love song. The minor chord tonality is what gives the song it's somber feeling, not the lyrics. I love that you took a chance and made it work. But I couldn't see me editing to that song.

Daniel, again great job - at :25 & 3:51 the shot took on an almost a 3-D feel. That's the letus adapher I'm sure, but the both were a wider shot then I've seen before. What sixe of 35mm lens was that - details, give away your secrets. Smile

Daniel,

I cried, simply because.... it was sooo beautiful. Especially the pre-ceremony, and the mood you evoked. I can't imagine anyone else capturing the beauty of the bride the way you did.

P.S. Congratulations on creating a mood that lingers...
