Horizontal lines on all pics with R200 and R220: Cause?? Can't Post

Anyone else been in this boat, where all printed pics have
horizontal lines throughout? I tried head cleaning and
alignment but to no avail.

Generic ink maybe the cause???

Anyone else having this problem? Anyone been able to
beat it?

Epsons are notorious for banding.Sometimes it takes multiple cleanings and alignments to fix. Try printing the Epson test pattern. If all the colors don't come out perfectly clear and even, you need to run the cleaning cycle again (and again, and again) Unsure

I second the head cleaning idea. At one time I had to do the deep head cleaning 6 times. I used a lot of ink, but it eventually worked.

Thanks, Ezra.

Were you using real Epson ink?

I saw a warning somewhere (maybe it came with my Ink Caddy) about doing too many cleaning cycles without some pauses. They recommend if the 2nd cleaning doesn't do it, wait for an hour before running the next one. This may give any dried ink that may be clogging an opening in the print head a chance to "dissolve."

Hi Brack

I had a similar problem with my Epson R200 and generic inks. That made me jump ship to the Canon Pixma iP4200. That was in 2005 and I haven't regretted it at all. The last I heard, they were not available in the US. I assume that is still the case? If so, that is a pity.

Cheers

Morning, Howard!

Did your R200 have that clear plastic piece on the end of the
tray? You have to fiddle with it ... bend it this way and that ... to
try to get the machine to take the tray in. Oftentimes you have
to nudge the tray to get it to take it in. And the Epsons just eat
through the ink.

Had some okay times with the Epsons but a lot of frustration, too.
The R200s really were inclined to streak the DVDs with ink. Then
you've got to get out the alcohol and swabs and clean the rollers
and let it all dry - after it's ruined a bunch of discs.

What else is an option in DVD printers that works good? Or is there
none that people are happy with?

I've heard something about the Canon you mentioned but last I
know that didn't come to the States for some reason.

Hi Brack

Yes, it did have the clear plastic piece and I sometimes had to do the "Epson nudge", to get the disc to feed. The Canon just works, effortlessly. I use the Epson for routine printing tasks, like email, etc. It has very light work.

Why don't you do a search to see what others are using? If you have no luck, I would suggest that you ask the same question on the Members Forum.

Cheers

Canon doesn't sell printers with Disc trays in the US because they don't want to pay Epson for the patent. You can get 'em in Canada though, if you know someone in the great white North Wink

I ran the cleaning a bunch of times and it got a little better
but ............

So, aside from that Canon model that's not available in the
US due to the patent issue, are there any other disc printers
that people here have been happy with? Does HP have anything?
Epson is the only option?
