Instructional Video (again) Can't Post

Hi all,
I tried posting this in "Marketing & Business", but the "Post A Message" was not working. This guy called me to ask if I could video tape an instructional video. I post this earlier but just yesterday had a chance to talk to him in person and now I know exactly what he wants. What he wants is a video of him explaining how to use a teeth impression plate, a picture of this plate is on this site "http://www.makeup-fx.com/teetheng.html". Apparentlly, Dentist use this tool to make teeth impressions and then they send him the model for him to clean up and make teeth, half wire braces, Night Gaurds, ect....at his lab at home. When the come to him they are not like he would want them to be. Some are not useable and some have way too much plaster which makes his job harder to do.
He wants this 30 min edited intructional video so he can sell it to Dentist around the USA. He believes that it will sell for about $40 or so. That will save the Dentist time and money because they will be doing the models properly. I already told him that I charge $125/hour for video and $50 for the editing. Just starting so I don't want to over charge. He want me to mass produce this tape for him.
My question: (1)If I stick with my price, what should I charge him for each tape that I reproduce? (2)Should I raise my price and let him deal with another company to mass produce his tape? (3)Do I want to touch this at all?
I appreciate all of your opinions. TIA
Gilbert

Re: Instructional Video (again) Can't Post

Hi Gilbert, I have began charging some clients by per minute of finished video. If the project is complex, the rate is between 500 and 800 per minute. Less complex projects run from 150 to around 400 per minute. so if this is a basic instruction video with simple graphics and less post time then maybe the lower rate applies. at 30 minutes of finshed video at 400 per is $1200.that may be to low for you but in this economy people are tight with money. Also, if he's selling it he will make a ton of money if he does it right. so at 1200 dollars lets say he gets 100 copies. 12 bucks a tape if someone else does the dupes.Plus even if he has to pay for them to be duped elswhere that won't cost him much. I think your price should be no less than fifteen hundred and even at that, it's a hell of a deal. just my opinion of course, in the end it all comes down to needing the work to have a sample or wanting to get paid what your worth and not spending tons of time on something that yeilds no profit. I've taken jobs where they say they want something simple and then try to add tons of extra content and make your life a living hell. Make sure you charge for anything beyond the original agreement. OK my rant is over. good luck.
BT.
