Mods you can make Can't Post

This is a nearly free camera support made from 2 inverted flash brackets from B&H
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/...L_Flash_Bracket.html $14.95 each 2 required.
You can also choose to use only one inverted flash grip for the left hand
leaving the right hand free to operate the camera zoom controls, etc.

note: you'll need to invert the plastic grips (2 screws each) and rubber grip strips (crazy glue)

Adjust them in or out to suit your grip. You can mount a mic, etc, on the unused flash shoes.
You'll also need to invert the thumb screws simply by removing them and screwing them in the opposite way.

The bottom thumb screw lets you mout the completed rig to a mono pod.

Here is a mod I made for my Glidcam 4000 so that balancing is extremely fast and positive.
I use it with the Smoother X-10.
Perform the gross adjustments with the Glidecam sled, then fine tune it with the micrometric stages.

You'll need 2 Manfrotto micrometric adjustment stages mounted at 90 degress from each other and a manfrotto quick release on top.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/...sitioning_Plate.html $89.95 each 2 required.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/...2_System_Quick.htmln $29.95 1 required.
Best, Craig

Dude that last rig for your GC is ridiculous! That's what Glidecam needs to provide with the GC. All the pro rigs work on a similar system and balancing is so easy and precise. Very cool, thanks for sharing!

Glad to have helped Darrell. It does make the balance extremely fast! I considered mounting the assembly right on top of the post directly, but felt that the added weight was so slight and the stock sled provides the gross adjustments while the micro then dials it in. BTW the micro has about a 5" travel. It has been sucessful with the Z1U with WA adapter (heavy!) and our new EX1 with WA adapter (ever heavier!) Also, if you own the Smooth Shooter, I would highly suggest the upgarde path to the X-10. It elevates the product to pro standards.

Nice idea w/ the two l-brackets, but I will warn you that I did the same thing several years ago...worked great for awhile, but after several months the weight/strain of the camera took its toll and cracked the screw mount, sending the camera to the floor. Since then I use heavier-duty brackets....as for the GC thing...cool, will have to check that out!

Glimmer...cracked the screw mount on the camera? Amazing...I've used this rig on many occasions with my DVX100 and Z1U with no problems although it's never been drop tested.

It wasn't the actual screw mount under the camera, although it did strip it, partially...but the black plastic/screw pieces on the brackets actually separated from the center screw - really strange. I had either a 150/170 on it at the time and the brackets came from Studio1. They worked really well at first, but after a while, that was it.

Very interesting! Especially the glidecam modding. Might try that myself. I'm guessing you couldn't find a 2 axis micro adjustment plate?

Great mods for the glidecam 4000, does this make it less solid, or does everything hook up solid and secure?
