Need Fix for WA lens: UPDATE Can't Post

Last night on the job I cross threaded the Wide Angle lens on my PD170. Frown Fortunately I had a UV lens on the camera and the camera threads were spared. The UV lens was trashed- I've already ordered another. Is there any way to repair the threads on the Wide Angle? I tried threading it onto a UV lens from my other camera- no luck. I hate to buy a new WA for the PD170 since I'll be ditching it for an HD camera fairly soon... I thought about forcing the WA onto a UV lens and using that to attach the WA to my camera, but I don't don't think having 2 UV lenses on a camera is a good idea. Help?!

Well...I called Armatos and they said they had never heard of something like this happening?! I guess I must be harder on my equipment than most of you guys Wink (anyone want a used PD170??)

It was just one of those in a hurry things. I did my reception prep with the wide angle lens so I can maximize shallow DOF. I switched to my fisheye for the introductions and when they went directly to the cake, I tried to make a quick change back to the WA. I should have just shot it normallyTongue (I was gonna say nekid, but I knew what a field day you'd have with that Sly ) That's what I get for being in a hurry. To replace both the UV filter and the WA would cost me about $500..Shockedouch!! Hopefully Armatos can fix it for me. In the meantime, the lesson for today is: SLOW DOWN!

You may be able to repair the threads by using a knife with an angle close to the pitch of the threads and run it progressively firmer around the threads that are bunged. That will kinda reshape them so you can screw it on something to finish repairing the bad area.

I was a auto mechanic 40 years ago and had to save all kinds of threaded parts. But those I had some meat to work with. Those lens threads are so fine and shallow there just isn't much hope if they are bunged badly.

I use the Canon WA-58 lens on my Sony and find it hard to get threads started with camera in normal position, so what I do is point the lens straight up and set the WA on top and start gently turning it and using gravity, it finds its own way. Hope you get it fixed. Maybe they can "permanently" attach a filter to WA and that will be your "new threads"?
