New Love Story Video to Critique... Can't Post

Hi all. I just started my videography business, and now have a couple of videos under my belt (well, 2.) This Easter Day I had an opportunity to shoot my first Love Story video, and thought I would pass it to the people I learned a lot of my craft from for a qritique. It's at http://www.allcode.com/gallery.html, under "Love Story Video".
(I have been a lurker here for about 6 months (when I decided to go into Wedding Videography), quietly learning from the people who work in the business, and I have to say that this forum is great for the beginner and expert alike.)

Excellent. Some of the best quality streaming I have seen on windowmedia player too. I really dig the background music track.
Who is that, and what is the name of the song. It was groooovy man.

Mike,
I like it - it's cute. The music is well chosen as well, particularly with the opening title. Out of curiosity, where are they? In a rock park? My only critique would be to perhaps show them in a second setting for some variety. I do like how you have them on opposite sides of the fram when they are talking. It makes it look almost conversational. One other question - I looked at your photo montage and I am wondering whether you used still frames from your video, photos you took, or photos other people gave you? I thought it was well done.

Thanks.
The artist is Bran Van 3000, the song is called Everywhere. It's off of the Practical Magic soundtrack. I had the CD for the title song, and just happened to listen to it again and found that song. I knew immediately that it was the song I wanted for that couple (er, I mean they supplied the song... ;) ).
Waaaaay groovy...

Amy,
I shot it at Great Falls in Trona, Ca. The only thing "great" about it is that it is a waterfall in the middle of the desert, so it's sort of an oddity. The water seeps immediately into the sandy earth at the base. Very odd. It does have some interesting vegetation around the area though.
The video was shot in a rush, booked the day before. The couple was going back home the next day, and wanted me to shoot the love story video for them. I told them that my family was going to Great Falls for Easter, and we could only film it there.
The photos were provided by a professional photographer in our area. I am doing a promotional shoot for him tonight. He's really trendy, so it should be a lot of fun.
Mike.

Re: WMP 9.0 [In reply to] Can't Post

After testing a bunch of WMP versions and Real , WMP version 9 kicks butt!!
Nice file size and BEAUTUFL quality! Especially when it compares to version 8 for dissolves up/down to black etc......
And best of all, the encoder is FREEEEEE!

I like it. Well shot and nice music.
Here is what I don't like.
Did you have them wear glasses or was it their choice?
I think there is a time and place for sunglasses but when someone is telling a story you want to see their eyes.
Some of the shots of the surroundings just looked like weeds.
The white flash transition was in places where you had been using cross dissolve. I did not like that white flash transition it didn't go well.
Nice work you have a lot of talent and will go far :)

Trust me, I did not want the sunglasses, but they insisted that they wanted them. I agree with you 100% on that, although I feel it didn't ruin the video. They will probably regret it later.

They are weeds. It's in the middle of the Mojave Desert. I tried to shoot the most attractive stuff...

There are a couple of places I thought it was appropriate. When the couple saw them, they throught they were really trendy, and wanted more... It's all about the customer... ;) My father-in-law said the same thing, he didn't like them. I liked them in their original locations.
: Nice work you have a lot of talent and will go far :)
Again, thanks! I hope to go as far as to at least pay for the gear. ;)

Nice work. I also really liked the way you framed them speaking on either side of the shot ... did you use a 16:9 setting or camera?

Thanks!
I just shot 4:3 and cropped it in post. I know, loss of resolution. It's not 16:9 anyway, it's 2.35:1 (approx) so I thought it wouldn't really matter.
