Our First Cali Wedding Can't Post

Our first big shoot of the year turned out to be a wedding in Santa Barbara- which is quite the flight all thew way from Toronto, Canada. After seeing all of these gorgeous weddings from people like Daniel and Julie, we were very pumped to get down there and shoot. It was quite the experience trying to recreate what we do locally for a couple in a new area with just over half our equipment. Add to that my second videographer getting food poisoning the night before and having a very tough time shooting. I think the clip turned out well. I tried something a little faster for their highlights as it was such a fun and happy wedding. I would love any comments or feedback- especially from the Cali crew.

Technically this would be a next day edit as it was put together on the plane ride home and put up the next day.

Damn dude, that rocked! I don't know if I've looked at your work before, but I'm digging the fast GC shots. I'm assuming your practically jogging/running with a stabilizer vest?

The flash on your blog wouldn't play, so I saw the Vimeo clip. Very clear!

Dude! That as great. It keep studdering though. It would have been better viewing experience had it not kept stopping on me. Have a very fast connection too.

No reception? Or was it held outdoors?

Phenomenal imagery.

What location was that?

Thanks Dan. Yeah I do have to get that whole hyperlink thing down.

While it was shot in 24P, I shot with the EX1 in HQ mode so it is super smooth. The Stutter is probably a vimeo issue as the render doesn't look like that- though other people have mentioned it too. It plays much better if you turn Hd off.

Wedding was in Santa Barbara, everything was outdoors. I only included the introduction and first dance shots in the highlights as that was most of the action we cover anyways.

No...actually..the video quality was great...it was the player. It kept stalling. And i didnt even watch it on Vimeo. I watched it on your blog.
i had to keep pausing it so it could load and let me watch.

You shot it with EX1s?

Yeah the blog totally stalls for some reason. We need to get a dedicated server soon.

This was shot with one EX1 and 2 A1s (one with a brevis). Not bad for my first realy EX1 shoot, I think.

Wow..yeah.. i would say so. It looked great.

Its interesting that you still colored it like your Canon stuff. It didnt look at all like Sony footage.

Did you buy teh EX1 or rent?

Re: [Daniel] Our First Cali Wedding [In reply to] Can't Post

It is certainly cleaner than the Canon, but I was surprised how well the A1s still held up. The XLH1 from Canon has very very similar imagery in good light- not nearly the same story in low light though.

Unfortunately I did purchase an EX1. Luckily Canon was understanding as it is a tapeless cam and they don't have one yet, so it technically isn't a direct competitor, but they did have t think about it for a while. With so many SDEs that aren't local, I needed something to really save me some time so they don't take a huge step back.

Beautiful stuff Patrick! Was this shot 60i or 24f. Would you mind schooling me on color "processing" sometime?

Unfortunately? Nothing bad about that dude regardless of your Canon obligations. Great purchase. (IMO.. of course! Tongue)

Glen,

Everything was shot 24F/P. I do believe we will be switching to that exclusively this year. With twixtor as a side kick, it has many advantages- as you already know.

Dan,

It is less about obligations with Canon and more about a sponsorship or partnership that has a fair amount of financial value attached. It is a great cam regardless, but I always need to way the options and how much better it might make our work, as opposed to our deal with them, what that provides and also what that can do in terms of branding. I'm very happy they are okay with it since they don't have tapeless yet.

Sorry about that. I had replied before but I guess something got deleted when I posted.

We shoot with the merlin, glidecam 2000, a steadicam pilot and the steadicam flyer. I personally get the most out of the Flyer. I feel very limited when I go to a hand held rig even after tons of experience with the full body mounted setup.
